Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year were the Three Kingdoms founded?

Answer: 220AD

The Han Dynasty began in 206BC. In 220AD, the Han Dynasty ended, and the Three Kingdoms were born. The kingdom of Wei was overthrown by Jin and hence the Jin Dynasty began in 265AD. The last of the Kingdoms, Wu, was destroyed in 280AD by Jin.
2. What were the names of the Three Kingdoms?

Answer: Wei, Shu, Wu

The Three Kingdoms, in the order they were assembled, are Wei, Shu, and Wu.
3. Which kingdom founded the Five Tiger Generals?

Answer: Shu

The Five Tiger Generals are, in no particular order, Huang Zhong, Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Ma Chao. They were founded by Liu Bei, (former) leader of Shu.
4. Guan Yu was the first of the Five Tiger Generals.

Answer: True

Guan Yu, non-biological brother to Liu Bei, was made the first of the Five Tiger Generals by his elder 'brother' Liu Bei.
5. Who is considered the most powerful and skilled warrior of the Han Dynasty, prior to the Three Kingdoms?

Answer: Lu Bu

Although Zhang Fei was supposedly more than a match, Lu Bu was and still is considered the greatest warrior of his time.
6. Zhuge Liang is ostensibly considered the most versatile Chinese strategist. Sima Hui believed his exploits were unmatched by any other, so much so that he compared him to two of the greatest strategists that ever lived in the face of Xuande and his brothers; what two strategists did he compare him to?

Answer: Jiang Ziya and Zhang Liang

Guan Yu had stated that Sima Hui was too complimentary about Zhuge Liang, and Sima Hui baffled both by comparing him to Jiang Ziya & Zhang Liang. Zhuge Jin and Zhuge Jun are brothers to Zhuge Liang. Shan Fu and Xu Shu are the same person; Shan Fu - real name Xu Shu - had recommended Zhuge Liang to Liu Bei. Both Kong Rong and Guo Jia were valued strategists of Cao Cao's army, Kong Rong was executed by Cao Cao. Guo Jia may have rivaled Zhuge Liang but he died at Chang An.
7. Dian Wei fought for the kingdom of Wei.

Answer: False

Dian Wei did not fight for the kingdom of Wei because he died before the land was divided into Three Kingdoms.
8. What lord died in Guandu?

Answer: Yuan Shao

Liu Bei did not fight in Guandu. Xu Chu is an officer for Cao Cao, not a military lord. The battle was between Cao Cao and Yuan Shao; Cao Cao used Yuan Shao's low food-supply as an advantage. People may give most credit to Guo Jia for Cao Cao's victory.
9. This was where Zhuge Liang's first contribution - strategy wise - to Liu Bei took place. Xiahou Dun was easily taken in by it, despite Li Dian's premonition. Where was this plan conducted?

Answer: Bowang

Xinye was Liu Bei's province at this time and this is where Zhuge Liang had precedented the plan. Xuchang was Cao Cao's province. Jiangxia was a province in the capital of Jingzhou. The plan involved Liu Bei setting his whole camp on fire. This strategy alone helped Zhuge Liang gain the respect and loyalty of his fellow officers.
10. "The empire, long _______, must unite', long united, must _______. Thus it has ever been." What are the missing words?

Answer: divided / divide

This summed up the Three Kingdoms period perfectly and was quoted in the final chapter of the final volume in "The Three Kingdoms" by the legendary, and perhaps unmatched strategist of his era, Zhuge Liang, style Kongming.
