1. In the beginning of the story, how many years had Armand been a vampire?

Answer: 500 years

500 years.

Armand was walking, trying to appear human. He says, "After five hundred years, I know such tricks."
2. At the start of the story, Armand ripped his victim's hair from his skull.

Answer: True

Armand admired his victim's hair and when the victim died, Armand ripped all of his hair out with one pull.
3. What did David say that made Armand change his mind about telling his story?

Answer: David told him to tell it for Benji and Sybelle

David had been trying to get Armand to tell him his story and finally, David said, "Let me put it to you this way, write it for them."

Armand replied, "For whom?"

David answered, "For Benji and Sybelle?" Benji and Sybelle were the mortal children that Armand loved.
4. What name did Armand's master, Marius, give to him?

Answer: Amadeo

Marius gave Armand the name Amadeo, which means "Beloved of God." We find out later in the book that Armand's real name was Andrei. He changed his name to Armand when he lived with another coven.
5. All together, how long did Armand spend in the brothels of Venice?

Answer: Seven days

Marius sent Armand to two brothels, one of women and one of young men. He spent three days in the first and four days in the second.
6. How is Armand poisoned?

Answer: He is cut with a poisoned sword

Armand became deathly ill after engaging in a duel with an Englishman. The man had poisoned the blade of his sword just before his duel with Armand. He managed to cut Armand twice and the poison seeped into Armand's blood.
7. When Armand is ill, he has a dream of his childhood. What was his forgotten childhood gift?

Answer: He painted icons with expert skill

Armand painted icons ("Ikons") for the monastery of his village. He made paint from egg yolk and did paintings of the Virgin Mary and Jesus.
8. Why couldn't Armand kill the innocent?

Answer: It would drive him mad

Marius told him when he was first changed that he was only to kill the evil-doer.

He actually said, "It is an infallible principle that the slaying of the innocent will drive you mad."
9. Armand goes to see his human family. Where in Ukraine do they live?

Answer: Kiev

Kiev is the capital of Ukraine. At one point in time, Kiev was considered one of the largest homelands for Christianity, until the death of a ruler and wars ripped the nation apart.
10. Marius' home was burned to the ground with him inside it.

Answer: True

Marius and Armand awoke one evening to find their house being burned by a coven of vampires who thought Marius was a heretic. Marius pushed Armand out to save him, but ended up being burned in the process.
