This noble dwarf of the line of Durin went on Thorin Oakenshield's quest to recapture the mountain of Erebor along with his brother Dwalin. He later led an expedition that briefly re-took the ancient dwarf kingdom of Khazad-dûm (Moria), only to be killed there by Durin's bane, the Balrog

Barahir of the house of Bëor, saved Finrod in the Dagor Bragollach to become an outlaw of Morgoth. Betrayed by his follower Gorlim, he was killed in Dorthonion with all his men save his son Beren.

After Smaug left, Bilbo found the Arkenstone of Thrain, and ransomed it to the Lake-men.
