Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Dead Suite" - Between books three and four, Maeva's baby was born. What unusual name did he have?

Answer: Osbert

Sadie was Osbert's godmother, and she clearly adored him. Throughout a good portion of book four, Maeva couldn't calm Osbert down unless he was eating. But, when handed to Sadie, little Ozzie (one of the many nicknames she had for him) instantly quieted. The name means "bright god" or "divinely brilliant".
2. "Dead Suite" - What kind of women were being murdered and de-fingered in this book?

Answer: Prostitutes

They were being drugged, strangled, stabbed and then the killer, Eddie Prior, cut of the index finger of each woman. He began leaving fingers for Sadie on the windshield of whatever vehicle she was driving. He'd used a GPS tracker to locate her cars. Sadie found out that the killer traced back to prostitute killings in Albuquerque as well.
3. "Dead Suite" - Sadie, having all but given up on Zack, had a sexual encounter with whom?

Answer: Owen

In between books three and four, Zack had gone through rehab and come back to Seattle. He wanted to move out of Sadie's house, but she'd needed him to help pay bills, so he stayed. During book four, Zack was in Portland a lot working a job, and he kept sending mixed signals over phone calls and text messages. Between that sadness, and being pursued by a killer and a ghost named Iris, Sadie succumbed to loneliness and need.

She slept with Owen one night. Owen was partnered with a woman named Gayla in a house reno/flip that also happened to be tied to the killer Eddie Prior and his daughter, the ghost named Iris.

At the end of the book, she told Owen she wanted to try and work things out with Zack. Owen said to let him know if that ever changed.
4. "Dead Suite" - Eddie Prior hired an actor from the Stone Soup Theater Company to hire Sadie for a Scene-2-Clean job. When Sadie met him, the actor identified himself as who?

Answer: Hugh Pacheo

"Hugh Pacheo" was played by Stone Soup alum Ed Muirhead. The real Hugh had died ten years earlier. Ed was emailed the job info and told it was all a huge practical joke for Sadie. In actuality, Eddie had killed Gayla's fiance Lester Pacheo and made it look like a suicide. He even had Ed give Sadie a gold necklace with the Latin inscription "Carnalem concupiscentiam est insatiabilis". That translates to "carnal desire is insatiable".

Nick Bottom was a fictional actor from William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Bruce Baxter was the actor played by Kyle Chandler in 2005's remake of "King Kong", and Johnny Drama was the half-brother to Vincent Chase, and played by Kevin Dillon, on the HBO series "Entourage".
5. "Dead Suite" - What alias was the killer, Eddie Prior, using?

Answer: Herbert Sylvane

Herbert Sylvane worked for the Bay Eminence Hotel. He'd hired Sadie to clean up his first local kill, a hooker named May Lathrop. Then he'd used the fake Hugh Pacheo to have her clean up his staged suicide of Lester Pacheo. Eddie had been on his way to becoming to a priest when he met Della and married her. Della Prior had killed her daughter Iris, believing the girl was possessed by a demon. That had occurred in the house on Halladay in Seattle, now owned by Gayla and Owen. Eddie left Della and Iris when the girl was very young and never directly contacted Iris again. He came back to town years later, believed Iris to be a hooker, and wrote letters to Della coaxing and instructing her on how to rid Iris of her demons. The poison used had killed Iris, which had been Eddie/Herbert's intent all along. Eddie/Herbert met Sadie several years earlier after the suicide of his prostitute sister. They'd been in the same grief support group for suicide survivors. He'd made a psychotic bond with Sadie at the time, and fixated on her ever since then. He almost killed Sadie in the hospital, but Zack arrived in time to save her. Zack convinced Sadie he did want a relationship with her, but this time he wanted to take it slow and do it right.

Bird, Ramirez, and Sutcliffe are names of actual serial killers.

Fun fact - Halladay is a real street in Seattle, there is a real house known as the Halladay House, which was rumored by kids to be haunted. It was built in 1888 and saved several times from either being made into apartments or being torn down completely. No true evidence ever came about that it was haunted.
6. "Drop Dead Beauty" - In this fifth and final installment, Sadie found out she was pregnant. Having been in denial, Sadi was persuaded by which person to take her first pregnancy test?

Answer: Maeva

Sadie was in heavy denial, as she was already ten weeks pregnant when she took the test. She went on to take eight more tests alone at home before her doctor confirmed the pregnancy the next day. Sadie's sister Dawn also revealed she was pregnant in this book. It was Dawn's second baby.
7. "Drop Dead Beauty" - Who was the father of Sadie's baby?

Answer: Owen

Owen Sorkin, Sadie's one night fling, turned out to be the father. She and Zack had not consummated their tentative new relationship since his return from rehab, so there was no possibility he could be the father. Both Owen and Zack were freaked out at the news of the baby, leaving Sadie thinking she'd be a single mother. Owen came to his senses and told her she'd not be alone in the raising of their baby, either financially or physically.

Then, Zack also came to his senses, and told Sadie he wanted to marry her, and they'd raise the baby together (the three of them).
8. "Drop Dead Beauty" - Whose murder was Sadie investigating for her good friend Detective Dean Petrovich?

Answer: Jane's

From the evidence gathered, all signs had pointed to Dean as her killer, so he implored Sadie to help clear his name. She owed him a lot, and agreed to help. Jane had been killed inside a spa she frequented, so Sadie went there and talked with the owner, Zenia. Then, she met Jane's massage therapist, an extremely attractive man named Emilio. It turned out that Emilio and Jane had fallen in love, despite the fact that Emilio had many special female clients. Zenia became homicidally jealous and murdered Jane. She framed Dean for the murder.

Amy, Louann, and Ellen are characters from the book "The Dollhouse Murders" by Betty Ren Wright.
9. "Drop Dead Beauty" - Sadie required help from a spiritual practitioner named Rudie Hernon. Was it because her pregnancy had enhanced her own psychic abilities?

Answer: Yes

When Maeva had been pregnant and nursing Osbert, she'd pretty much lost all of her abilities. After he was weaned, she got them all back. So, when Sadie's abilities enhanced (for the worse), Maeva took her to see Rudie. He was able to first offer her a temporary solution that took away all of her ability to see dead people. Sadie had discovered painfully that she could now feel the death of her ghostly clients.

His hex bag took them all away, and she could still work. Later, he was able to specifically target her needs.

He created a bag that allowed her to see and speak to her ghosts, but not feel them any longer. As a bonus, she was able to help him get his furious ex-wife to cross over to the other side.
10. "Drop Dead Beauty" - Which of these was NOT one of the ghosts Sadie helped in her final story?

Answer: Maeva

Thankfully, Maeva survived through to the end. Dean died after an argument with Jane at the Jonelle Day Spa. He'd had an undiagnosed bleeding gastric ulcer and passed out. He hit his head in the fall and died. Zenia took his gun and killed Jane with it, and cops believed he'd killed Jane and died outside afterward. Sadie, Zack and the cops cleared Dean's name, so Sadie used this information to help Dean cross over. Polly was the Hex of Strife, aka Rudie Hernon's ex-wife.
