Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which novel did Bella discover that Jacob could turn into a wolf?

Answer: New Moon (2)

In "New Moon" a lot of the youths from the town of La Push started experiencing alarming changes. They suddenly became reclusive and matured (physically) to about the equivalent of a 25-year-old.

Jacob was worried about what was happening to his friends, and was also trying to cheer up Bella over her breakup with Edward. Suddenly Jacob also succumbed to what was afflicting the youths (gaining the ability to transform into a large wolf), and was ordered to avoid Bella. The wolf pack was ordered to not let anyone know what they really were, and especially the vampires and those affiliated with vampires. But Jacob's attachment to Bella was too strong, and he apologized to her. He left clues for her to figure out his true nature without him explicitly telling her, so no rules would be broken.

The wolf pack was patrolling the area for a vampire who was feeding on hikers. The wolves had a deal with the Cullens, who did not drink human blood, but were still distrustful of them.
2. In which novel did the Cullens play baseball?

Answer: Twilight (1)

The Cullen family, despite attending school and interacting with the other residents of Forks, often kept to themselves. Their strength and unique abilities made most activities with normal humans difficult (as well as the desire to drink their blood).

The Cullens did enjoy sports with each other, though. They were particularly fond of baseball, and used their incredible strength and speed to make it a very interesting game. The Cullens had to disguise the sounds of their game as thunder, and so they were only able to play the game during thunderstorms. Whenever there was a storm, the Cullens would all call in sick to take the day off for baseball.

As Bella was getting to know Edward's family, he brought her to one of their games. All agreed that it would be better for Bella to spectate with Esme, rather than deal with the supersonic baseballs personally. Bella and the Cullens were having fun until three non-vegetarian vampires came across their game.
3. In which novel did Bella agree to marry Edward?

Answer: Eclipse (3)

Bella really wanted to become a vampire, and stated as much in "New Moon" (the second novel). She said that she wouldn't mind Carlisle performing the procedure (he would be able to control himself) but also that she would rather it be Edward. Edward was against her becoming a vampire, and offered that he would turn her if she married him first. He was hoping that she would not want to get married for a long while, giving her more precious time as a human. Bella was not ready to be engaged, and gave no response.

In "Eclipse" (The third novel), Edward wanted Bella to have as many human experiences as she could before becoming immortal. Bella was set on being turned sooner rather than later, so that their physical ages did not move too far apart. One thing Bella decided she did want to do before she became a vampire, however, was to have sex with Edward. Edward was terrified that he would lose control and hurt Bella, but she was confident that he would never hurt her. His new deal with Bella was marriage first, again hoping to delay her. Bella agreed, and they become engaged.
4. In which novel did Bella meet the Volturi?

Answer: New Moon (2)

At the beginning of "New Moon", Bella was over at the Cullen's house for her birthday, and accidentally got a paper cut opening a present. The sight and smell of blood set off Jasper, and he attacked Bella. Bella sustained a deep cut, but was defended by the rest of the Cullens.

Edward became scared for Bella's safety, and felt that she would be in less danger if he left. Edward and the Cullens moved away, and Bella sank into depression. She tried to act normal, and became closer friends with Jacob. Jacob tried to cheer her up, coming up with fun/dangerous activities. They restored and then rode motorcycles, and near La Push, Bella tried jumping off the cliffs into the ocean. Bella noticed that she could hear Edward's voice when she performed dangerous stunts, and began seeking danger.

Alice, with the ability to see the future, thought that Bella had committed suicide by jumping off the cliff. Rosalie told Edward that Bella was dead, and in his grief, he sought out the Volturi to kill him. Alice went to Forks to investigate, found Bella alive, and then the two raced to Italy to stop Edward from committing suicide. During their trip, they met the Volturi of Volterra, the strongest vampire coven in the world. They were responsible for laying down and enforcing most laws that all vampires were expected to follow.
5. In which novel did Bella become a vampire?

Answer: Breaking Dawn (4)

Bella and Edward finally got married, and Bella was on the road to becoming a vampire. But first, the newlyweds had some other business to take care of, and so they went on their honeymoon to Isle Esme off the coast of Brazil.

One overlooked consequence of the two consummating their marriage was Bella becoming pregnant (they were under the impression that it was impossible for vampires to conceive). Playing host to a human-vampire hybrid fetus turned out to come with an array of complications, and greatly endangered Bella's life. She could not become a vampire during her pregnancy, and she refused to abort the pregnancy. The incredibly fast gestation period and strong baby started to destroy Bella's body. Eventually the Cullens (without the doctor Carlisle, who was away) had to perform an emergency surgery to birth the child. Edward saw Bella's broken body (broken ribs, spine, and major blood loss), and knew only one way to heal her - to turn her into a vampire. Bella took three days to become a vampire and heal, and after was as strong and healthy as only a newborn vampire could be.
6. In which novel was the vampire James killed in a ballet studio?

Answer: Twilight (1)

James was one of the three vampires that wandered across the Cullens' baseball game. He enjoyed hunting his prey, and had the special ability to track specific people. He saw Bella being protected by the Cullen coven (Edward in particular), and decided that she would make for an excellent hunt.

To protect Bella, the Cullens split up Edward and Bella. Bella was sent to Phoenix, Arizona, to hide, but James was eventually able to track her. He lured her away from her protectors to her old dance studio. He had just started to feed on Bella when the Cullens arrived. The Cullen boys destroyed James, and Edward, against all his natural instincts, sucked James' vampire venom out of Bella's wounds to prevent her from turning into a vampire.
7. In which novels did we read from Jacob's perspective?

Answer: "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn"

The first time we read from Jacob's perspective was the epilogue of "Eclipse" (the third novel). In it, he was brokenhearted after hearing about Bella and Edward's engagement. He received a wedding invitation, and a thank you note from Edward. He transformed into a wolf and ran away from the area.

During "Breaking Dawn" (the fourth novel), Jacob found out that Bella was in danger from her pregnancy. Also, Sam, the shape-shifter leader, wanted to kill Bella and the hybrid fetus inside her. Jacob's love for Bella compelled him to return to Forks and defend her. Jacob's perspective was used when Bella was back at the Cullen house and enduring her pregnancy. The narrative returned to Bella's point of view when she woke up as a vampire.
8. In which novel did the Cullens and shapeshifters team up against Victoria's army of newborn vampires?

Answer: Eclipse (3)

Victoria was one of the three vampires that wandered in on the Cullens' baseball game in "Twilight". She was also the partner of James, the vampire who was killed by the Cullens. She became furious and set up a revenge scheme. She wanted Edward to feel the same sense of loss she did, by killing Bella.

Victoria began creating newborn vampires in Seattle, which were known for being powerful and reckless. She then taught a few of them how to make more vampires without killing the victims so the army could grow on its own. She also needed to contend with Edward's gift of mindreading, and Alice's ability to see the future. She kept her distance from the Cullens, and made no concrete plans to throw them off.

Victoria used feints to distract and throw off her prey, while collecting information. Despite evading Edward and Alice's gifts, Bella managed to piece together Victoria's plan, and told the Cullens and the wolf pack. The two groups reluctantly agreed to work together against this large force of unstable vampires.

Edward took Bella away from the fight to hide. Seth, a wolf, also stayed with them to protect her. Victoria still found Bella, but Edward decapitated her before she could hurt Bella.
9. In which novel was the vampire Laurent killed?

Answer: New Moon (2)

Laurent was one of the three vampires who wandered in on the Cullens' baseball game in "Twilight". He did not care for the way James would toy with his prey, and left the group to warn the Cullens that James was hunting Bella.

After James died, Victoria sought out Laurent for help. She was planning her assassination of Bella and needed information. She asked Laurent to go to Forks and assess the situation. Laurent found that the Cullens had abandoned their place, and that Bella was seemingly unprotected. He knew that Victoria wanted to kill Bella personally, but found that Bella was too tempting to pass up. He found her alone in the meadow, and was about to kill her when the wolf pack showed up and killed him.
10. In which novel did Edward and Bella get married?

Answer: Breaking Dawn (4)

Edward had first asked Bella to marry him in "New Moon" in exchange for him turning her into a vampire. In "Eclipse", marriage was used as another stipulation before Edward was willing to have sex with Bella. Bella agreed, and they became engaged and sent out wedding invitations. "Breaking Dawn" started with Bella and Edward's wedding, at which only Charlie and Jacob (and Team Jacob) seemed to be disappointed.
