Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which former Rogue Squadron pilot turned out to be alive after long presumed dead?

Answer: Bror Jace

Bror Jace left the Rogues at the end of "Rogue Squadron". He told them that his uncle (?) was ill, and that he had to go to his homeworld, Thyferra. The spy in Rogue Squadron relayed his flight path to the Imperials. The Imperials ambushed his X-wing, and the Rogues thought he was dead.

Bror actually took an unscheduled detour on his way home, and got aboard a freighter to take him to Thyferra. They loaded his X-wing with a bomb to simulate a proton torpedo misfire, and sent it on its way. Bror made his way to Thyferra on the freighter.

His uncle was never sick. Bror instead met with the Ashern rebels, and recommended that Qlaern Hirf contact Wedge Antilles for support. When Corran, Mirax, Iella, Elscol, and Sixtus all went to Thyferra to set up liaisons, a firefight broke out at the spaceport. Bror helped rescue his friends. After everyone had healed up, Bror returned to Rogue Squadron with Mirax and Corran.

Elscol and Sixtus were characters created in the "X-Wing: Rogue Squadron" comic series, which was also written by Michael A. Stackpole.
2. Which planet did Rogue Squadron help liberate in "The Bacta War"?

Answer: Thyferra

Thyferra was a planet known as the largest producer of bacta in the galaxy. Bacta was the miracle medical substance that sped healing in many species. It could help cure diseases, as well as speed the repair of physical trauma. Bacta was widely sought after by civilian governments and armies on all sides of any conflict.

When Isard left Coruscant with the Lusankya in The "Krytos Trap", she fled to Thyferra. She hoped that by controlling the flow of bacta, her Krytos virus could do more harm. The New Republic focused it efforts on Warlord Zsinj, who had recently destroyed a large bacta convoy. The Rogues saw Isard as the greater threat, and left the New Republic so they could continue to fight her.

Halanit was a small colony world that was just coming into its own. It was small and did not have much money. After the Rogues hijacked a bacta convoy, Halanit was one of the recipients of the bacta. Isard wanted to scare worlds into only dealing with her when they wanted bacta, and made an example by destroying Halanit.

Borleais was taken by the Rebels in "Rogue Squadron", and Coruscant was liberated in "Wedge's Gamble". It later became the production site of rylca, a drug made from bacta and ryll that was particularly effective against the Krytos virus.
3. Rogue Squadron unanimously resigned from the New Republic armed forces to pursue Ysanne Isard while the rest of the New Republic focused on Warlord Zsinj. The Rogues made a new home for themselves in a space station orbiting which planet?

Answer: Yag'Dhul

The station orbiting Yag'Dhul formerly belonged to Warlord Zsinj. Zsinj stole a shipment of bacta and stored it at the station. The Rogues retook the station in "The Krytos Trap". The station was declared destroyed, which made it the perfect hiding spot for the Rogues. The Rogues were very careful about not revealing their location, even to their ally, Talon Karrde.
4. When the Rogues attacked Thyferra, Ysanne Isard knew she was in trouble. She tried to escape in a shuttle. Who fired the proton torpedoes that destroyed Isard's shuttle?

Answer: Tycho Celchu

Isard stole Fliry Vorru's personal shuttle to escape. Vorru had the shuttles shields and armaments significantly upgraded. Corran was ordered to pursue and destroy the shuttle, but he was out of torpedoes and his lasers were not strong enough. He had to keep the shuttle from leaving Thyferra's gravity well, where it could escape to hyperspace. Corran used his proton torpedo targeting system to scare Isard. Isard tried to break his locks, making her journey to the edge of the well longer. Isard eventually called Corran's bluff and was just about to jump to hyperspace when two torpedoes destroyed her shuttle. Tycho had fired his remaining torpedoes using Corran's targeting information.

Squad members using targeting data from each other was a common element in Stackpole's "X-Wing" novels. It first happened in "Rogue Squadron" when Corran ran a training mission first. Wedge transferred the targeting data to all the other pilots for their runs, letting them all get better scores. Later, when the squadron was ambushed by an Interdictor Cruiser, Corran was damaged, but was able to get two kills using targeting information provided by Tycho flying an unarmed shuttle.

Tycho and Corran had both been inmates at Isard's Lusankya prison, and had personal reasons for wanting Isard dead.
5. When Rogue Squadron left the New Republic, the military kept their hardware. All the Rogues had no fighters at first, save one. Who already owned his/her X-wing?

Answer: Corran Horn

When Corran left Corellian, he escaped in his own X-wing with his droid Whistler. He never gave the X-wing to the New Republic, but was allowed to fly it. When Rogue Squadron all quit, only Corran and Mirax had their own ships. Tycho did have 17 million credits to help them, though.

After the Rogues left, the New Republic sold their X-wings as surplus, saying they were missing PL-1s (item identification code for pilots). The squadron was able to purchase their old X-wings with their astromechs included. Emtrey was also purchased, and Zraii, their old mechanic, also resigned and followed the X-wings.
6. Because they were no longer part of the New Republic military, the Rogues were not obligated to have a standard paint scheme for their fighters. Each pilot got to choose his/her own colours and design. Why did Ooryl's X-wing look white to Wedge?

Answer: Because it was painted in the ultra violet range

Wedge had been on a scavenging trip for X-wing parts when Rogue Squadron reacquired their old X-wings. Tycho told Wedge that he and Gavin were the last to have their X-wings painted. Wedge pointed out Ooryl's X-wing, but Tycho insisted that it was done. While it looked plain to the humans and other human-like species, according to Zraii, their verpine mechanic, it was a masterpiece.

Being able to see in the ultraviolet range was just one more interesting thing about the Gands that Corran found out. Gands also only required one hour of sleep a night, did not breath, and could regenerate entire limbs.
7. What colours and pattern did Wedge paint his X-wing?

Answer: Half black, half green and gold checkers

The colours that Wedge chose were the same colours that his parents would have used when they opened their own refueling station. They were killed when the pirate Loka Hask blew up the station that they were working on to stall the Corellian police. Wedge met Hask in the comic "X-Wing: Rogue Squadron: The Phantom Affair".

Green was CorSec's colour, so Corran's X-wing was solid green. Gavin had his painted like a krayt dragon, the fiercest creature found on his homeworld, Tatooine. Tycho had his fighter painted red with diagonal white stripes and black separating the the red and white. These were the colours of the Alderaan Guard unit that had been stationed near his house on Alderaan before the planet was destroyed.
8. What ship did Erisi Darlit fly in "The Bacta War"?

Answer: TIE Interceptor

Despite working for Isard from inside Rogue Squadron, Erisi was never Imperial. Her reason for helping Isard was to help her family's bacta company. Erisi, like the rest of the Rogues, liked the X-wing because it had shields, unlike most Imperial starfighters. When Isard was named the head of Thyferra, she insisted that the Thyferran Home Defense Corps (THDC) be equipped with Imperial hardware. Erisi had tried to reason with Isard, but Isard was so in love with everything Imperial that she refused to listen.

Erisi was given the job of leading the THDC aerospace wing. She had to train rookie pilots in inferior craft to take on arguably the best squadron in the galaxy.
9. When Erisi Darlit was shot down, did her ship explode?

Answer: No

When Corran shot down Erisi, her Interceptor crashed into one of Thyferra's airless moons. Her ship rolled, bounced, and crumpled, but never exploded. Corran reflected that Erisi would have hated the lack of an explosion, but then decided the he did not care what Erisi would have thought. Erisi had been the one responsible for Corran's stay in the Lusankya and Tycho's trial for murder.
10. Did Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik got married in "The Bacta War"?

Answer: Yes

Corran asked Mirax to marry him while they were on the Yag'Dhul station, waiting for the signal to launch their strike at Thyferra. He did not have a ring, so he gave her his Jedi medallion.

When Isard sent her Star Destroyers to kill the Rogues at Yag'Dhul, the Lusankya fled and the Virulence surrendered itself to Booster, thinking Booster had riddles the station with proton torpedo launchers. The New Republic was not happy about the idea of Booster having a Star Destroyer all to himself. During the meeting with Booster, Karrde, Cracken, Corran, and Mirax, Mirax let slip that she was engaged. Booster was furious that his daughter would ever be engaged to a man who worked for the organization that had put him on Kessel for five years.

Mirax and Corran figured that Booster would be angry no matter what they did, so they decided to get married before the liberation celebrations started. Because the Lusankya had been surrendered to Wedge, he was the acting captain, and capable of performing marriages.

When Booster found out at the celebration that his daughter had been married he was angry, not because of whom she married, but because Karrde had just bet him a million credits that they would do exactly what they did.
