11 Harrowhouse in London is a fortress-like building housing the world's largest collection of diamonds, with ultra-high tech security. With some inside help (and a few cockroaches), Charles Grodin figures out how to steal them.

The Consolidated Selling System is usually simply referred to as "The System." It is the largest trader of diamonds in the world, and carefully regulates the supply to ensure the value of diamonds remains high.
"You can't beat the system," Chesser suggests at the start of the film.
By the end of the film, he proves you can.

Answer: Candice Bergen

Candice Bergen is hilarious as Maren, constantly taking crazy risks and being far tougher than Chesser at every turn. She drives like a lunatic, proclaiming "I'm not reckless, I'm skillful." Maren is a widow, whose husband was killed in a car crash. She and Chesser would get married, but her inheritance would be cut off. Bergen went on to win five Emmy Awards as the title character on "Murphy Brown" (1989-1995).

One of the best lines in the whole film. Said while she is narrowly missing every car on the highway, playing the I'Ching as she's driving. Meanwhile, Charles Grodin is seconds away from having a nervous breakdown.

Answer: James Mason

James Mason plays the unfortunate Watts, and is wonderful as a man who makes the closing chapter of his life screwing over his employer. Mason made over 100 films in a career spanning 50 years. He is best known for his very distinctive voice, a marvelously clipped British accent. Mason died in July 1984.
Gielgud plays Meecham, the head of the diamond exchange. Howard plays Clive Massey, the eccentric billionaire who hires Charles Grodin for the robbery.

Answer: Helen Cherry

Helen Cherry was the real-life spouse of Trevor Howard, who played Massey. At the time, she was 58 years old. They were married 44 years, until his death in 1988. She died in 2001.
Lady Bolding goes skinny-dipping and horseback riding with Maren. She helps Maren and Chesser escape at the end of the film.

Answer: Walther PPK

Good enough for James Bond, good enough for Charles Grodin. As it turns out, the gun was unnecessary for the actual robbery. It doa come in handy when they are trying to escape from Massey's henchmen.
Maren: "A Walther PPK will stop just about anything..."
Chesser: "From what?"
Maren: "Living."

Answer: human

Chesser turns out to be very human to Watts, giving him a check for $250,000 so his family will be provided for after his death. Watts delivers the line as he explains that he is dying of terminal cancer, and will not live to see thirty years on the job. The Consolidated Selling System will pay 20 percent of his pension to his family.

Answer: airplane

Massey does have a vintage WW2 Hurricane on his front lawn. "If that airplane took off, I was giving up," deadpans Chesser.
Chesser and Maren escape the grounds of Massey's estate in a van from an interior decorating firm, with an assist from Lady Bolding. Massey loses one group of henchmen when they drive off a cliff, and another when they blow up in a sewer pipe.
"Win some, lose some," Massey concedes as Chesser escapes.

Answer: Howard

Not Howie. He hates to be called that.
Background on Chesser: His father was a diamond seller, and that's how he got into the business. Chesser travels to London roughly six times a year. He is viewed as relatively unimportant by The System, and is abused by Meachem. He is a native of Pittsburgh.
