Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'In the end there are only two things that matter...'

Answer: Love and a .45

Gil Bellows and Renee Zellweger starred in this thriller, playing criminals in love and on the run. The film was photographed by Tom Richmond, who later shot 'Waking the Dead' (starring Jennifer Connelly and Billy Crudup).
2. 'Some games you play. Some games play you.'

Answer: Above the Rim

This NYC-set drama is about a high-school basketball star who is dealing with the prospects of life. Tupac Shakur, Marlon Wayans, and others are in the cast.
3. 'Still buzzing after all these years.'

Answer: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger starred in this remake of the story. McConaughey, as a chainsaw-wielding maniac, was a far cry from his romantic lead roles.
4. 'Who says the good guy has to be a guy?'

Answer: The Next Karate Kid

This movie was basically 'Karate Kid' with a female star. How very feminist.
5. 'He's the best there is! (Actually, he's the only one there is.)'

Answer: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Jim Carrey cemented his hold on over the top goofball roles with this movie. In the movie, Ace set out to recover a missing dolphin mascot. Courteney Cox costarred.
6. 'Sometimes you have to break your vow to keep your promise.'

Answer: Nina Takes a Lover

This story of infidelity is told through interviews with the main characters, played by Laura San Giacomo and Paul Rhys. The film was written and directed by Alan Jacobs.
7. 'Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?'

Answer: The Shadow

Alec Baldwin stars as a sort of 1930s superhero. Penelope Ann Miller costars. This film served as a bit of a warm-up for cinematographer Stephen H. Burum, who went on to photograph the ultra-successful 'Mission: Impossible'.
8. 'Jimmy Dolan went to Africa to recruit a new player. What he found was a whole new ballgame.'

Answer: The Air Up There

Kevin Bacon plays Jimmy Dolan, a basketball recruiter who travels to Africa to find some new players. Of course he has to prove himself in order to win over the amazing player he finds there. The movie's pretty mediocre, but has some cool shots of African landscape (it was filmed in South Africa and Kenya).
9. 'What's a little murder among friends?'

Answer: Shallow Grave

Directed by Danny Boyle ('Trainspotting' and 'The Beach'), this film is about three friends who find their flat-mate dead. The film follows their responses to this strange occurrence. Ewan McGregor is among the cast.
10. 'The greatest adventure is finding your way home.'

Answer: Andre

This kids movie is based on a true story. In it, a family adopts a marine seal named Andre, and we see how the animal becomes a loved part of the family.
11. 'It could happen.'

Answer: Angels in the Outfield

Danny Glover, Tony Danza and Christopher Lloyd star in this family dramedy about angels helping the California Angels baseball team win the pennant.
12. 'The hilariously sexy comedy!'

Answer: Holy Matrimony

Leonard Nimoy (aka Spock) directed this movie about a Hutterite boy who is obligated to marry the widow (Patricia Arquette) of his deceased older brother (Tate Donovan). Before Donovan had died, though, he hid some money that he and Arquette had stolen, and Arquette has to search for it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the young husband who is eventually able to do the right thing.
13. 'Angie's ready to face life's toughest challenges. But is life ready for Angie?'

Answer: Angie

Geena Davis stars as the title character, a Brooklyn woman taking on motherhood. Stephen Rea and James Gandolfini costar.
14. 'Yabba-Dabba-Doo!'

Answer: The Flintstones

This live-action version of the old cartoon starred John Goodman and Elizabeth Perkins as Fred and Wilma, and Rick Moranis and Rosie O'Donnell as Barney and Betty. Kyle MacLaclan, Halle Berry, and Elizabeth Taylor also make appearances. How someone got a cast like that to do a film version of 'The Flintstones' is beyond me, but stranger things have happened.
15. 'He said it was a lesson. She said it was sexual harassment. Whichever side you take, you're wrong.'

Answer: Oleanna

This is a David Mamet film starring William H. Macy and Debra Eisenstadt. Eisenstadt plays a student who accuses her teacher (Macy) of sexual harassment, a claim that eventually leads to the crumbling of his career. Incidentally, Cate Blanchett got rave reviews performing this play on stage in Australia opposite Geoffrey Rush early in her career.
16. 'When the big city called he had to answer.'

Answer: Baby's Day Out

Joe Mantegna, Joe Pantoliano, and Lara Flynn Boyle star in this comedy about the kidnapped baby of some rich Chicago socialites.
17. 'The vacation is over.'

Answer: The River Wild

Meryl Streep, family matriarch and rafting expert, is forced to help some armed robbers navigate a river while her life and her family's lives are on the line. Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, and Benjamin Bratt costar. Curtis Hanson ('Wonder Boys') directs.
18. 'This Christmas, the snow hits the fan.'

Answer: The Santa Clause

Tim Allen accidentally kills Santa on Christmas Eve and finds himself being transformed so as to take the jolly man's place. Judge Reinhold (of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' and 'Beverly Hills Cop') costars.
19. 'She's a fabulous, loving, caring mother, who er... ...happens to be a serial killer!'

Answer: Serial Mom

Kathleen Turner stars in this John Waters film as a mother who goes to criminal lengths to defend her family's honor.
20. 'Language beyond understanding. Life beyond words. Discover.'

Answer: Nell

Jodie Foster stars in the title role, a woman who developed an unintelligible language due to lacking contact with the outside world. When her mother dies, some scientists (one of them played by the Jedi master himself, Liam Neeson) argue over what should be done with such an unusual anthropological and sociological specimen.

The film was photographed by Dante Spinotti, the same man who did 'Heat', 'The Insider', and 'Wonder Boys'.
