Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'When intimacy is forbidden and passion is a sin, love is the most defiant crime of all.'

Answer: The Scarlet Letter

Demi Moore and Gary Oldman star in this cinematic version of the Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. The film was photographed by the same man who did 'Labyrinth' and 'Cliffhanger'.
2. 'Try to remain calm.'

Answer: Outbreak

Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, and Morgan Freeman star in this thriller about a deadly airborne virus brought into the US by a monkey.
3. 'Two different worlds. One true love.'

Answer: Pocahontas

Mel Gibson gave his voice to John Smith in this Disney movie. Some folks overlook all the historical inaccuracies of this film and actually enjoy it.
4. 'The trial that brought down Alcatraz.'

Answer: Murder in the First

Kevin Bacon and Christian Slater star in this drama based on a true story about a man sent to Alcatraz on small-time charges. While there, he is mistreated, resulting in his own mental instability and factoring in the more serious crimes for which he is later up for execution.
5. 'No one stays at the top forever.'

Answer: Casino

Sharon Stone was nominated for an Oscar for her role in this film, playing the trophy wife to Robert De Niro's mobster husband. According to the screenwriter, Nicholas Pileggi, 'Casino' represented the third in a sort of trilogy of films in which Scorsese depicted the rise and inevitable fall of gangsters. 'Mean Streets' started it with a very poor level of gangsters. 'Goodfellas' showed the blue-collar mobsters. 'Casino' showed the really rich mafia.
6. 'Who decides what makes a mother?'

Answer: Losing Isaiah

Jessica Lange and Halle Berry star in this drama about a recovered crack mother who wants to regain custody of her young son.
7. 'Honor made him a man. Courage made him a hero. History made him a legend.'

Answer: Rob Roy

Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange star in this film about the Scottish hero. Tim Roth is extremely potent as the creepy villain.
8. 'Seeing is believing.'

Answer: Casper

This movie was pretty cute. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci played a father and daughter who moved into a haunted house. Of course there's some romance between Ricci's character and the oh-so-lovable ghost, but things get worked out in the end.
9. 'All she wanted was a little attention.'

Answer: To Die For

Nicole Kidman plays an aspiring TV personality who gets three teenagers (including Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck) to kill her husband (Matt Dillon) to aid her quest for the limelight. Gus Van Sant ('Good Will Hunting') directs.
10. 'Attitude is everything.'

Answer: To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar

This drag queen road trip stars Wesley Snipes (a truly beautiful woman), Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo.
11. 'The dark is their sunlight. What makes them different is what keeps them alive.'

Answer: The Addiction

This is a horror movie about a philosophy student in NYC who gets bitten by a vampire, and thus becomes one herself. The movie then follows her descent into blood addiction. Lili Taylor plays the afflicted student, with Christopher Walken and Annabella Sciorra also starring.
12. 'A little pig goes a long way.'

Answer: Babe

This is, of course, the oh-so-cute movie with live animals who are voiced by actors. James Cromwell was touching as the farmer. Hugo Weaving (later of 'The Matrix' and 'Lord of the Rings') voiced the male sheepdog.
13. 'It's all in your mind.'

Answer: The Babysitter

This was a pretty awful movie starring Alicia Silverstone in the title role. Jeremy London, Nicky Katt, and J.T. Walsh play men of various relation to her, who are obsessed with her. The movie more or less markets itself as titillation, but it isn't particularly successful even at that.
14. 'You are cordially invited to the most surprising merger of the year.'

Answer: Sabrina

Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond, and Greg Kinnear star in this remake of the 1954 Audrey Hepburn - Billy Wilder film of the same name.
15. 'They're not there to shop. They're not there to work. They're just there.'

Answer: Mallrats

Kevin Smith's second chapter in the Jersey Chronicles, this film follows Jay and Silent Bob, Brodie, Tricia Jones, and others. If you like this movie, you should (of course) check out 'Clerks', 'Chasing Amy', 'Dogma', and 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'.
