Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Name the actor who played the president?

Answer: Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford is well known for his role of Han Solo in the "Star Wars" trilogy, which he did not originally want to play. He's also known for playing Dr. Indiana Jones in another trilogy of Steven Spielberg films, "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", and "The Last Crusade".

He was born July 13th, in Chicago. He almost quit acting, settling for a career in carpentry. His first big acting break came with the part of Bob Falfa in "American Graffiti".
2. What was the president's name?

Answer: James Marshall

This president was described as an experienced soldier, and a medal of honor winner. There were two actual US Presidents who shared initials with this character, James Madison and James Monroe.
3. Who played the lead Russian hi-jacker?

Answer: Gary Oldman

This character played by Gary Oldman was a very ruthless individual. He let us know that he fought during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and was very loyal to Mother Russia. He desperately wanted to see Russia reunited to it's original Cold War supremacy. Gary Oldman was born March of 1958 in New Cross, London, England.

He has played Sirius Black in some of the "Harry Potter" movies.
4. During the president's visit to Moscow he made a speech describing how the U.S. had stood by and done nothing while people were killed by terrorists. Not until U.S. interests were threatened did the U.S. finally react. Altering his planned speech, he invoked a new U.S. foreign policy. What was it?

Answer: We will not negotiate.

The President's speech called for a "zero-tolerance" policy on terrorism. But on the return flight home, terrorists took over Air Force One and took the passengers hostage. They threatened to execute one hostage every half-hour until their demands were met. It was an easy policy to declare, but not an easy one to enforce, as this movie showed.
5. Who was the first hostage executed?

Answer: National Security Advisor Jack Doherty

The Vice-President was informed that a hostage would be killed every thirty minutes until General Radek was released. Jack Doherty introduced himself to the head terrorist as the one man who could get their demands met. He was shot in front of the other hostages by the terrorist, while the terrorist spoke on the phone with the Vice-President.

The terrorist described him as being "a very good negotiator, he just bought you another thirty minues".
6. A rescue plane was dispatched to aid Air Force One and subsequently changed call signs, once the president was saved. What was the plane's original call sign?

Answer: Liberty 24

The final scenes showed how a cable was extended from an MC-130 (Liberty 24) to Air Force One. The President, along with the others, were shown sliding along the cable to safety. All this was acutally done by computer animation.
7. What was the president's wife's name?

Answer: Grace

Wendy Crewson played the First Lady as a very strong, independent woman. She was very supportive of her husband and encouraged him to stick to his principles. Wendy also played the mother in the Tim Allen comedies "The Santa Clause" and "The Santa Clause 2".
8. What was the name of the General captured by Special Forces at the start of the movie?

Answer: Radek

General Radek, an ousted political leader, was caught by Special Forces, and ended up in prison. Does the prison look familiar? The prison scenes were filmed at the Mansfield Penitentiary, the same prison used in "The Shawshank Redemption".
9. Finish the quote: "If you give a mouse a cookie _______________________."

Answer: It's gonna want a glass of milk.

While in the luggage bay, talking by cell phone to the Vice-President, the President asked this question, while explaining why they could not give in to the terrorists' demands.
10. Who played Defense Secretary Walter Dean?

Answer: Dean Stockwell

Dean Stockwell has appeared in TV and in movies since the 1940s with over 100 credits to his name. Still a very busy actor, he is one of the few child actors who has succeeded lifelong in films.
