Bruce appears to be chasing Rachel because she has found something in the garden that he wants to see. She is hesitant, saying "Finders keepers, and I found it first," to which Bruce replies "In my garden!" Rachel proceeds to open her hand only to let Bruce snatch the arrowhead and almost mockingly reply, "Finders keepers!" As Bruce runs away he stumbles and falls through the wooden cover of an old well.

Bruce is clearly quite capable at thrashing all of these men at once, and once the fight is broken up by the guards, he is taken into a solitary cell. The guard states when asked that it is for protection. Bruce, almost feeling belittled, argues(quite rightly) that he doesn't need protection! The guard then adds that it is for the protection of the prisoners.

Bruce is released the next day and wastes no time in heading up the mountain in cold, harsh conditions to pursue the flower and thus pursue his training. Bruce is successful, and even though deprived of almost all strength once he has reached the stronghold of Ra's al Ghul, begins his training with Ducard.

Ironically, Bruce is sent to destroy the city that he wants to save. He asks for more time in order to do what he can first, but he is refused. He is also asked as a test of faith to execute a local criminal. Bruce realises that although initially their intentions were the same - to fight crime - they both have very different ideas of how to go about it. Bruce decides it is necessary to destroy the base of operations.

In the struggle, Ra's al Ghul is killed but Bruce manages to save the life of his mentor and friend, Ducard.

A clear friendship has been established between Bruce and Lucius, and he is given an armored military vehicle - the Tumbler. Originally built as a bridging vehicle with immense power and weaponry, it is perfect for Bruce's cause.

Flass is gone and Falcone's driver has been knocked out. Falcone proceeds to load a shotgun and asks, "What are you?" Batman, from the top of the car smashes through the roof and pulls Falcone out, strikes him and literally chains him to a spotlight, thus also marking the debut of the famous Bat-Signal.

Bruce is unsure of himself, so Alfred asks him the same question that his father once asked Bruce, "Why do we fall?" The answer being "So we can learn to pick ourselves up." Bruce goes on to gear up and attempt valiantly to stop Ducard and save the entire city from a nasty destruction.

The scene develops their collective confidence in Batman himself - especially now that the Joker is at large and has already committed a double murder according to Gordon. Will Batman and Gordon be able to stop the Joker??
