Gale Sondergaard (1899-1985) was an American actress who won the Oscar in her film debut as Faith Paleologus in "Anthony Adverse" with Fredric March and Olivia de Havilland. The film won four Academy Awards. "Anthony Adverse" is the story of an orphan, who unknown to him is raised by his natural grandfather.

Alice Brady (1892-1939) was an American actress who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1936 for her role in "My Man Godfrey" and who started her film career in the silent film era, however, she did win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1937 in "In Old Chicago". Fay Bainter (1893-1968) won the same award for 1938 for her role as Belle Massey in "Jezebel". Hattie McDaniel (1895-1952) won the same award for 1939 as Mammy in "Gone with the Wind".

Barbara Del Geddes (1922-2005) was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1948 in "I Remember Mama". She is possibly best remembered as Miss Ellie in the TV series "Dallas" in which she appeared from 1978-1990.
