Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) Trivia Quiz

The 2003 "Cheaper by the Dozen" is one of my favorite movies. One of my biggest dreams is to have a lot of children and this movie shows the good sides (and bad) of having many children. Questions are in chronological order.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Kate, why did she and Tom have Mike?

Answer: Too many beers

Nora, Charlie, Lorraine, Henry, Sarah, Jake and Mark were planned since Tom and Kate wanted eight kids. When they went for number eight they had twins, Jessica and Kim. Later, they went to a party and had too many beers and nine months later, they had Mike. And in 1998, Nigel and Kyle were born, for a total of 12 kids.
2. While getting photographed for their Christmas cards, the children start fighting. What started this discussion/fight?

Answer: Jake wearing black

At this point, the children had already found out that they were going to move and were angry about it. Jake then showed up for the photography wearing black. His parents weren't happy about his choice of wardrobe for the Christmas cards. Lorraine thought black would work since Jesus had his funeral on Christmas.

Henry then "corrected" Lorraine and said that Jesus had his funeral on Easter instead. Jessica then corrected Henry and said that Jesus died on Easter. Henry then hit Jessica and told her to shut up.

Then the rest of the children entered the fight.
3. Why did the Bakers have to move?

Answer: Tom was offered the position of coaching the Stallions.

During the flashbacks in the beginning of the movie, the Bakers lived in Chicago and Tom's dream job was coaching the Stallions. After Nora, Charlie and Lorraine were born, Tom and Kate realized that they couldn't live in the city, have eight children and two careers.

Therefore the family moved to the country. As the children grew older, Tom's old friend, Shake, offered him the position of coaching the Stallions which still was Tom's dream job. The family then moved back to Chicago.
4. What was Mark's argument for not wanting to move away from Midland?

Answer: His frog's mother was buried in Midland.

Mark's only friend was his frog, Beans, and therefore he saw Beans as his family. Therefore he didn't want to split Beans from his mother, Pork, who was buried in the Baker's backyard in Midland.
5. Why did Jake, Mark, Jessica, Kim and Mike start fighting with the bullies at school?

Answer: The bullies knocked Mark's glasses off.

Even though the five of them went to the same school, they weren't happy at their new school. This is one of the sides of family, and having a lot of siblings, that I love - sticking up for each other, which was what Jake, Jessica, Kim and Mike did after the bullies knocked off Mark's glasses.
6. According to Charlie, when did Tom start being a dad?

Answer: When he was kicked off the football team

According to Charlie, the move was only about his parents and both of them had only been thinking about themselves. Charlie was also being bullied at school in Chicago and had to leave his girlfriend behind in Midland and was therefore not happy. When Tom got mad because Charlie had been kicked off the football team at school, Charlie said, "Look who finally decided to be a parent."
7. Out of the 11 kids that attend school, which ones don't we see at school?

Answer: Henry and Sara

We see Charlie, Lorraine, Jake, Mark, Jessica, Kim, Mike, Nigel and Kyle several times at school. We see Charlie and Mark being bullied and Jake, Jessica, Kim, Mike, Nigel and Kyle fighting. As Charlie and Lorraine are en high school and Jake, Mark, Jessica, Kim and Mike are in elementary school, we can guess that Henry and Sarah must be in middle school.
8. What two things did Hank compare a family to?

Answer: Death and taxes

Hank was Nora Baker's boyfriend. The day Oprah was supposed to come, Hank revealed that he didn't want children, that he thought that families were inevitable, like death and taxes. When Mark ran away, Hank didn't want to come and look for him because a commercial was on television that he stared in. That led to Nora breaking up with him. Even though she had 11 younger siblings herself, most them out of control, she still wanted a family of her own.
9. What event led to Bill Shenk standing up to his wife?

Answer: Mark running away

Tina and Bill Shenk and their son, Dylan, lived in the Baker's new neighborhood in Chicago. Tina was a very snobby woman who didn't like the Bakers from the moment she saw they ate fast food, and even less from the moment she found out they had 12 children. Bill just did as he was told by his wife until Kate told them that Mark ran away. Tina acted like trying to find Mark was a lost cause, but Bill insisted on helping the Bakers to find him.
10. Why didn't Tom invite his kids to the last football game?

Answer: He quit his job.

Tom could see that his new coaching job was hurting his relationship to his kids and he felt bad about it so he quit his job. After the last football game was over and Tom was standing on the field, he sees his kids standing on the side of the field with the signs saying "WE LOVE THE COACH". This scene always makes me cry.
