Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning, which sportscaster said "...and Richard Petty is out of the Daytona 500"?

Answer: Benny Parsons

Before 2001, ESPN Sports would broadcast the NASCAR races. The three main commentators would've been Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons, and Ned Jarrett. This quote was after Richard Petty was knocked out of the opening scene by Rowdy Burns. Benny was heard in the background saying "....and Richard Petty is out of the Daytona 500! And speaking of people who are out of the race, it's time to remember the legendary crew chief Harry Hogge." Ned Jarret followed him up by saying "...whose great driver Buddy Bretherton was killed last year in a fiery crash after hitting the wall at over 195 mph." Harry was then seen spreading fertilizer on his farm.
2. Who said "I give up racing, you gotta know that"?

Answer: Harry Hogge

As Harry was spreading fertilizer on his land, Tim approached him and asked Harry to build a car for him for the season. Harry shut off his tractor and said "Now, Tim, I give up racing. you gotta know that." Tim said "You didn't give up racing Harry. You quit to avoid investigation into Buddy's crash at Daytona." Harry got defensive and said " I didn't avoid any investigation!" Tim explained that if Harry came back that NASCAR promised no investigation. Harry was confused and asked how Tim managed that. Tim smiled and said, "I'm a heck of a salesman!"
3. Who said "Let me drive, Harry. I won't make a fool out of you"?

Answer: Cole Trickle

Harry was really unsure of this brash, new driver that Tim picked. In fact, he didn't like him at all. Cole melted his heart by saying "Let me drive, Harry. I won't make a fool out of you." Harry saw a determination in this driver's face and decided to let him try it out.
4. Who said, "Well, would ya look at that! Somethin' we don't hafta fix"?

Answer: Buck Bretherton

This was said after Cole beat the car all to heck at Bristol. Every corner of the car was bent up except for the driver's side door panel. Buck, always a clown, said "Well, would ya look at that! Somethin' we don't hafta fix." Harry, mad and frustrated, went up and kicked the door so hard the panel fell straight off. Harry said "I don't want you spoilin' it Buck!" Harry was geting frustrated because of Cole not driving the car the way Harry wanted him to.
5. Who said "There are 40 other vultures out there who manage to finish the race on their tires. You see Darrell Waltrip usin' up his tires?"

Answer: Harry Hogge

At a team meeting, Harry, Tim and Cole were the only ones left. Harry tried to explain that when the needle on the tachometer goes to 9000 rpms, that that was bad. Cole remarked "I guess it's my fault that the tires blow, you gaseous old fart." Harry retorted "Well, heck yes it's your fault.

There are 40 other vultures out there who manage to finish the race on their tires! You see Darrell Waltrip usin' up his tires?" Tim tried to calm everyone down, but Cole exploded and said "You want me to work the pit and you drive? Fine! We'll try that!"
6. Who said "I'm gonna take this rookie once and for all"?

Answer: Rowdy Burns

Rowdy was getting a little irritated at Cole in the Darlington race. Col came up and "rubbed" him the wrong way and kept doing it as a form of intimidation. Rowdy got mad and shouted over his radio to his crew, "I'm gonna take this rookie once and for all!" The two beat and banged each other around the track and it ended up with Rowdy spinning out.
7. Who said, "Now Cole here is a kamakazi driver like my pappy was"?

Answer: Buck Bretherton

Buck was watching some films on TV of various races and was explaining that there were calculating drivers and there were some kamakazi drivers. He stated, "Now Cole here is a kamakazi driver like my pappy was." Buck's dad was Buddy Bretherton and Harry Hogge was his crew chief. Cole was excited to learn of the connection and started to ask questions about the accident. Harry cut him off before Cole could get an answer.
8. Who said "Stop playing peekaboo in Rowdy's rearview mirror. I thought you two would've had enough of that by now"?

Answer: Harry Hogge

Again, Cole kept trying to intimidate Rowdy by going high on the track and going low on the track. In this sene, you saw the pink color of Cole's car going back and forth in Rowdy's rearview mirror. Harry was getting irritated at Cole going back and forth across the track and said, "Stop playing peekaboo in Rowdy's rearview mirror. I thought you two would've had enough of that by now!" Cole said that Rowdy had "rubbed" him the wrong way and loosened his rear bumper. Cole was just going to help it come all the way off. Harry advised against it.

It was in this section of the movie that the big crash happened between Cole and Rowdy which landed both of them in the hospital.
9. Who said "When I'm driving, there's a guy on the radio who talks to me. I can't see him, but he talks to me"?

Answer: Cole Trickle

While Dr. Lewicki was running tests on Cole to check for any brain damage, Cole was asking for answers. Since no one was saying anything, Col asked "Would someone talk to me? When I'm driving, there's a guy on the radio who talks to me. I can't see him, but he talks to me." Lewicki told Harry that Cole would be fine.
10. Who said "Well that's interesting enough, Mr. Trickle, but it's just not my specialty"?

Answer: Claire Lewicki

Cole was in some trouble. Harry went and got his doctor, but Cole thought Harry was playing another practical joke by dressing a pretty girl in a doctor's uniform. During this scene, Cole placed her hand where he wanted it. Dr Lewicki just smiled and gave him the best embarrassing line of all, "That's interesting enough, Mr. Trickle, but it's just not my specialty." She grinned slyly and walked out.

The guys from the crew just lost it. Harry finished up the laughter by saying, "Sorry, Cole, I'm trying not to smile."
