They married in 1985, and divorced in 1989. He married Robin Wright-Penn in 1996, who played Jenny in the 1994 hit "Forrest Gump".

When Sam arrives at the hospital when Lucy is born, the nurse asks "What's her name?" Sam replies "Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Lucy Diamond Dawson. Lucy Diamond Dawson" Annie tells Sam that people thought the song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" had some mysterious meaning, but that John Lennon said it was inspired by a picture his son Julian drew of his friend Lucy O'Connor.

Rebecca was a homeless woman who just needed somewhere to stay. After they leave the hospital, she points Sam to a bus that's just about to leave, then as Sam goes to get on it, she runs off down the street. She does not appear again in the movie. Lucy was born on December 6th.

Annie says this when Sam asks her to look after Lucy while he's at work, because she's getting too big to take. Lucy says her first word, which is "Annie", and I think Annie feels like she's been manipulated. Rita is Sam's lawyer, George is his boss at Starbucks, and Randy is Lucy's foster mother.

Connor comes over to Sam and Lucy's house for dinner, and asks Lucy if her dad's retarded. When Lucy says 'yes', he asks if she is, and when Lucy says 'no', he asks how she knows. Lucy says because her dad told her. Connor makes fun of the fact that Sam apologized to the egg he cracked. "Sorry Mr. Egg."

This is said after the initial hearing where Lucy is taken into care, and Sam and his friends are discussing the fact that he needs to get a lawyer.

"Do you know her? She has an orange office." Rita makes the psychiatrist cry on the stand by mentioning her son who O.D'd in an attempt to find out whether she thought she had made "mistakes that were huge."

This is when Sam buys the used answering machine so he doesn't miss any of Lucy's calls.

Sam asks the man behind the counter if he could separate them. Rita tells him not to be impossible, then proceeds to order a spinach omlette, egg whites only, with no fat, butter or oil and extra mushrooms. When Sam tries to pay for the meal, Rita asks him if he really wants to pay, or if he's just trying to act like an adult. Sam gets upset that Rita thinks what everyone else thinks, that Sam can't take care of Lucy.

When she says it doesn't matter to them what she thinks, Sam says "It matters to me!"

Answer: "All you need is love"

Lucy says this when she's being questioned by the prosecuting lawyer, Mr. Turner. Sam is watching her through closed-circuit cameras, and gets a bit upset when Lucy lies answering some of the questions. When she says this line, Sam kisses the television screen.
