Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what two movies did Robert de Niro co-star with Dustin Hoffman?

Answer: "Wag the Dog" and "Sleepers"

In "Dog," De Niro played Washington spin doctor Conrad Brean, with Hoffman as Hollywood producer Stanley Motts, not the two most honest guys in the world. In "Sleepers," De Niro's role was regular-guy priest Father Bobby, while Hoffman played attorney Danny Snyder, a brilliantly nuanced peformance in a supporting role!
2. Who played Frank Nitti in "The Road to Perdition" and Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream"?

Answer: Stanley Tucci

Two other major credits for Tucci were "Big Night" and "The Impostors." Let's see: drama, comedy, mob movies, Shakespeare -- this guy's pretty versatile!
3. He was in "Apollo 13," "Primal Fear," and "Hart's War," but he's best known as Henry Goldblume on the classic "Hill Street Blues."

Answer: Joe Spano

Joe was the NASA Director in "Apollo 13," Captain Stenner in "Primal Fear," and Colonel Lange in "Hart's War." On "Hill Street," Ed Marinaro was Joe Coffey, and Travanti was Capt. Frank Furillo of course. Robert Blake? Seems his real name was Mickey Gubitosi. Italian? You be the judge. Guilty of murder? You be the judge.
4. Who was in "The Abyss," "Class Action," and "The Perfect Storm"?

Answer: Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio

I have to admit I was pulling your leg a bit here. George Clooney isn't Italian, and neither is Peter Stormare. Clooney is 100% Irish, and Stormare is from Sweden, which made for some pretty odd casting when he played the gunnery sergeant in "Windtalkers." Mary Elizabeth's parts were Lindsay Brigman in "The Abyss," Maggie Ward in "Class Action," and Linda Greenlaw, the female boat captain in "The Perfect Storm."
5. What singer appeared in three movies, the only one worth mentioning being "Bye, Bye Birdie"?

Answer: Bobby Rydell

Rydell, nee Robert Ridarelli, played a major role as Hugo Peabody, which gave him a chance to sing as well as "act."
6. Who was in "Where's Poppa?", "Little Shop of Horrors," and "The Super," and also played Archie Bunker's neighbor, Frank Lorenzo, husband of Betty Garrett's character, Irene Lorenzo?

Answer: Vincent Gardenia

Vincent Scognamiglio, AKA Gardenia, played Coach Williams in "Where's Poppa?", Mr. Mushnick in "Little Shop," and Big Lou Kritski in "The Super." He was on "All in the Family" from 1973 to 1974. Mario Bugliosi was one of my high school teachers.
7. "It Happened in Brooklyn" and "The Kissing Bandit" were two of the less outstanding credits in the career of one of the greatest stars of the twentieth century.

Answer: Frank Sinatra

Francis Albert made a lot of good movies, the best probably "The Manchurian Candidate," but these two were not among them.
8. Frank in "Empire of the Sun," Eddie in "Midnight Run," and Teddy in "Memento" were three juicy roles for this fine character actor who was also cast as a regular on a top TV series. And his name is?

Answer: Joe Pantoliano

Have you ever seen Joe deliver a bad performance? I never have. He was the snake-in-the-grass Ralphie on "The Sopranos."
9. "Jungle Fever," "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle," and "What Dreams May Come" were all credits for this actress who has also (surprise!) had a prominent role on "The Sopranos."

Answer: Annabella Sciorra

Her role as Gloria, Tony's mistress, gave Annabella a chance to show her stuff -- and her aim with a steak!
10. Ciccone is or was the last name of this star who has appeared in movies about baseball, crime, and South American politics. By what name is she best known?

Answer: Madonna

Yep, "A League of Their Own," "Dick Tracy," and "Evita" are three of the best-known movies of Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone from Bay City, Michigan.
