Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

3. Buddusky SM1 was the main character in what movie?

Answer: The Last Detail

In 1973, "The Last Detail" hit movie theaters. Jack and his partner had to transport a prisoner, played by Randy Quaid, from Virginia to Maine. They met a few bumps on the way. It was the third Oscar nomination for Jack and he still didn't win! The other Jack won; Jack Lemmon for "Save The Tiger".
4. J.J. (Jake) Gittes was a private investigator in what great movie from the 70's?

Answer: Chinatown

Jack's forth nomination (third for Best Actor) was directed by Academy Award winning Roman Polanski. In this movie Jack played a P.I. investigating people who were cheating elderly people of their land. Also, in the movie it was Roman Polanski who held a real knife to Jack's nose.
5. Randle Patrick McMurphy played cards in which movie?

Answer: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Finally! Jack wins his first Oscar for Best Actor playing a mental patient who really isn't mental. Also, "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" is one of only a few movies to win the top five Oscars. It won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.

The other two movies were "It Happened One Night" and "The Silence Of The Lambs". This is also where Michael Douglas won his first Oscar. He was one of the producers and accepted the Oscar for Best Picture.
6. Give me the movie where the character Eugene O'Neill appears.

Answer: Reds

This was Jack's sixth nomination. It was for Supporting Actor. The movie was about the love of two activists (Louise Bryant and John Reed). Warren Beatty was also nominated for Best Actor, but did not win. Oh well, I guess he had to settle for the Best Director Oscar!
7. Retired Garrett Breedlove was in what movie?

Answer: Terms Of Endearment

Jack's seventh nomination and second win. He won for Best Supporting Actor. Shirley Maclaine won Best Actress. "Terms Of Endearment" also won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, James L. Brooks. This tear-jerker was about how a mother and daughter come to terms with their mistakes in life.

Answer: A Few Good Men

Jack's tenth nomination. The year was 1992. Jack was a colonel who had ordered a "Code Red" on one of his marines. Great quote: Tom Cruise: "I want the truth!" Jack Nicholson: "You can't handle the truth!" Jack looked so great in that movie!

Answer: The Shining

Jack gave a wonderful performance, in my opinion. Jack played a writer who loses his mind while staying at the Overlook Hotel, which has no visitors besides himself and his family.
