Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first "Bond" movie, not the movie starring David Niven?

Answer: Dr. No

It was released in 1962, the year I was born. I can quite safely say that I grew up with James Bond!
2. What was the first "Bond" book written by Ian Fleming?

Answer: Casino Royale

It was written in 1953. The character of Bond was loosely based on Ian Fleming who worked as a spy during WWII. I don't think they had laser watches or underwater cars back then, though.
3. What was the name of Ian Fleming's house in Jamaica?

Answer: Goldeneye

Goldeneye is now a now a luxury resort near Ocho Rios on the north coast. According to the Jamaican Tourist Board, October 2002, it will cost you $5,000 per DAY to rent!
4. What year did Ian Fleming die?

Answer: 1964

He died on August 12th, 1964 at the age of 56. He is buried in Sevenhampton, near Swindon near the Welsh border.
5. What brand of vodka does Bond usually have in his martinis?

Answer: Smirnoff

Shaken, not stirred. Obviously. The 20th film "Die Another Day" has him drinking Finlandia Vodka. Smirnoff decided the Bond image wasn't right for their company image.
6. What was the first Bond movie to win an Oscar?

Answer: Goldfinger

"Goldfinger" won best sound effects. "Thunderball" won best visual effects, but a year later. "Live and Let Die" was nominated for best song. "The Spy Who Loved Me" was nominated for best song, art direction and music.
7. What is James Bond's family motto?

Answer: The World Is Not Enough

As revealed in the film of the same name, just as Bond is about to be throttled by Elektra King. "A foolish sentiment..."
8. Who sponsored the 20th official Bond film, "Die Another Day"?

Answer: Seven Up

How could they pass on an "Agent 007-UP" tag line?
9. The Aston Martin DB5 in "Goldeneye" belongs to who?

Answer: "Top Gear" presenter, Jeremy Clarkson

Legend has it that it is Clarkson who is driving the car up to the Monte Carlo Casino. I don't know how true that is.
10. Which Bond movie was entitled "Private Revenge" when it was released in Italy?

Answer: Licence to Kill

When "Dr. No" was released in Italy they re-titled it "Licence To Kill", causing much confusion later on.
11. Which Bond movie was released in Holland under the title "Calm Down, Mr. Bond"?

Answer: Thunderball

For the life of me, I can't see why! What was wrong with its original title?
12. What is Dr. No's first name?

Answer: Julius

As played by Joseph Wiseman.
13. Which one of the following performers has NOT played two different roles in the series?

Answer: Yaphet Kotto

Although Yaphet Kotto played Mr. Big & Kananga in "Live and Let Die", they were, in fact, the same person. Maud Adams played Andrea Anders in "The Man with the Golden Gun" and was also Octopussy. Charles Gray was Blofeld in "Diamonds Are Forever" and Henderson in "You Only Live Twice". Joe Don Baker was Brad Whittaker in "The Living Daylights" and Jack Wade in "Goldeneye" & "Tomorrow Never Dies".
14. In which movie was Ernst Stavro Blofeld first spotted?

Answer: From Russia with Love

He only appeared as a pair of hands stroking a white cat. The actor is uncredited but thought to be Anthony Dawson, who played him in "Thunderball".

Answer: You Only Live Twice

As played by Donald Pleasence.
16. Blofeld was Bond's nemesis: how many of the official Bond movies did Blofeld appear (credited and uncredited), in one form or another, up to and including, "The World Is Not Enough"?

Answer: 6

In both "From Russia With Love" and "Thunderball" he was faceless. "You Only Live Twice", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "Diamonds Are Forever" saw him with a bigger role. Although he is uncredited in "For Your Eyes Only", the bald headed, white cat stroking, wheelchair bound villain in the opening credits is Blofeld (check the Internet Movie Database for more details).
17. Which country refers to James Bond as Mr. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang?

Answer: Japan

A reference to the Dionne Warwick song from "Thunderball".
18. Who directed the first Bond movie?

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" clocked in at 140 minutess. The other three were all 130 minutess. Times taken from the Internet Movie Database.
20. Which Bond movie has the SHORTEST running time up to, and including, "The World Is Not Enough" (original release times; no director's cuts)?
