Made up Oscars Trivia Quiz

Everyone loves the Oscars, but the categories are the same year after year. If the following categories existed, who might have won them? (NB. As in the official Oscar list, winners are listed by the release date for the film, not the ceremony.)

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first award is for Best Sideburns, 2000. And the nominations are ...

Answer: Hugh Jackman for 'X Men'

Jackman played 'Wolverine'. He would have been a cinch for this award, unless Slade's Noddy Holder had made a film that year.
2. Best British accent by an American performer, 1998?

Answer: Gwyneth Paltrow for 'Sliding Doors'

Keanu Reeves and Mel ('Wa cun ... and wa wull') Gibson's terrible accents are legendary, and can be used to frighten small British children who won't eat their spinach. They also weren't in 1998. Elizabeth Hurley is British, so can be forgiven for sounding so ridiculous.
3. Best use of a lavatory in a Shakespearean adaptation, 1995?

Answer: Ian McKellen for 'Richard III'

In an unusual interpretation, McKellen recites part of the 'Winter of Discontent' speech while using a men's urinal. Sometimes, the world of the intellectual is a mystery to me.
4. Most embarassing Oscar acceptance speech, 1997.

Answer: James Cameron for 'Titanic'

Gwyneth Paltrow and Sally Field have each had their embarassing moments at the Oscars (although not in 1997), but in my opinion you can't beat 'the king of the world' for sheer spit in your face awkwardness.
5. Best plot twist, 1999.

Answer: The Sixth Sense

Three of these films have excellent plot twists (I won't spoil them here) but only one was in 1999. The reference to 'Oliver' is a poor quality pun for which I apologise.
6. Best nostrils, 1999.

Answer: Heather Donahue for 'Blair Witch Project'

I found 'The Blair Witch Project' really scary (possibly because I saw it without hearing any of the hype first) but the camera was often a little close for comfort.
7. Most campy vampire, 1994.

Answer: Tom Cruise for 'Interview with the Vampire'

Unlike many others, I really enjoyed 'Interview with the Vampire', but then again, I liked 'Carry on up the Khyber'. In the follow-up novel, 'The Vampire Lestat', Cruise's vampire character becomes a rockstar (honestly) - I'm hoping its Britney Spears.
8. Outstanding contribution to slimming, 1995.

Answer: Se7en

Unlike the vast majority of the cinema-going public, I hated this film, but if the death of the fat bloke doesn't get you dieting, then nothing will.
9. Best screenplay based on no material, 1996.

Answer: Twister

Who needs a plot when you have flying cows?
10. Silliest finale, 2001.

Answer: Hannibal

I'm not sure Ridley Scott was playing for laughs with what happens to Ray Liotta at the end of this film, but he certainly got them.
