Noriyuki "Pat" Morita was the endearing Mr Miyagi in the first four "Karate Kid" movies. Sadly, he passed away but he will always be one of my favourites. At first the producers were doubtful if they should cast him or not since he was a stand-up comedian and had no martial arts experience at all.

His stunt double in many of the fight scenes was Fumio Demura, a well known Okinawan karate and kobudo master.

In the movie, Tony Jaa is a Muay Thai practitioner who must save two elephants who have been kidnapped. Muay Thai is an ancient form of Thai boxing and considered by many to be the toughest stand up fighting art in the world.

Jack Black was the voice of Po. Other well known actors who lent their voices to the movie were Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan. Jack Black is well known for his roles in movies like "Tenacious D", "School of Rock" and "Envy".

Not one of JCVD's best movies! The plot is similar to most low budget movies from the late eighties. He went on to better things after this. Sho Kosugi is better remembered for "Revenge of the Ninja".

Yamashita sensei portayed the role of the evil ninja quit well! He is a kobudo master of note. Yamashita sensei moved to America to become an actor and found it hard at first to make a breakthrough in the industry. He sustained himself by working as a bouncer in bars and teaching karate and kobudo.

Probably one of the best martial arts movies ever made, "Best of the Best" focuses on the five members of the USA Karate Team who will compete against a Korean team. Although it is called the USA Karate Team, one of the members, Tommy Lee (Philip Rhee), is actually a Tae Kwon Do stylist.

Loosely based on real life events, the movie "Bloodsport" follows the events in the life of martial artist Frank Dux as he competes in the infamous tournament known as "The Kumite". Contrary to popular belief, the word "kumite" does not mean "fighting". It actually means "to cross hands".

Jet Li imitates the movements of a rooster to defeat the evil centipede in the climatic final scenes of the movie. Classical kung fu is well known for its animal styles. Kung fu masters have been imitating the movements of animals for centuries and have created some formidable fighting systems. Some of the better known styles are Tiger, Snake, Crane, Mantis, Monkey and Leopard.
