Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Holly takes Paul with her to visit Sally Tomato, Sally reviews Holly's accounting of her income and expenses. He quotes a few of the line items, including income from the powder room and the expense of fixing a torn dress. On a lighter note, how much does Sally say Holly spent on cat food?

Answer: 27 cents

I agree with Sally that the accounting Holly's expenditures tells quite a tale about her life. I particularly enjoyed the cat food, however, because it showed the one responsibility she seemed to accept, no matter how hard she tried to deny actual ownership of the cat.
2. What was the weather report when Paul went with Holly to visit Sally Tomato at Sing-Sing?

Answer: snow flurries expected this weekend in New Orleans

"Small craft warnings, Block Island, Hatteras" was the report that Holly relayed to Paul when she first told him about Sally Tomato.
3. When Paul gets Doc Golightly to follow him down to the park so he can find out who he is, what is bought at the concession stand?

Answer: a box of Crackerjack

It's actually a crucial moment: that box of Crackerjack contains the toy ring that Paul ultimately has engraved for Holly at Tiffany's.
4. What kind of "doc" is Doc Golightly?

Answer: veterinarian

Specifically, he tells Paul that he's a "horse doctor, animal man".
5. When did the first Mrs. Golightly pass away?

Answer: July 4th, 1955

"Their own precious mother, precious woman, passed on July 4th, 1955, the year of the drought." He says this when he's explaining to Paul that the children in the picture aren't Lulamae's "natural-born chi'ren."
6. How old was Lulamae/Holly when Doc Golightly married her?

Answer: goin' on 14

No wonder she became a call girl, poor thing.
7. What did Doc say he caught Lulamae/Holly and her brother Fred stealing milk and what other item from his farm when he first found them?

Answer: turkey eggs

He says this when he's explaining their relationship to Paul, but we also hear it again when Doc's leaving on the bus. Holly, after sending Doc off on the bus, says to Paul, "You know the terrible thing, Fred darling? I am still Lulamae. Fourteen years old, stealing turkey eggs and running through a briar patch. 'Cept now I call it 'having the mean reds.'"
8. When Doc is trying to convince Lulamae/Holly to come back to Texas with him, when does he say that Fred is due to get out of the Army?

Answer: February

That's actually how we learn that the scene is taking place in the fall. Holly's response is "February? Why, that's only four months!"
9. When they leave the bus station, Holly instructs Paul not to take her home until she's what?

Answer: drunk

"Until I'm very drunk indeed." The whole ordeal with Doc was just too much for her, and she felt she needed some liquid reflection.
10. As Holly and Paul arrive back at the apartment building after spending the afternoon drinking, Holly informs Paul that she has, "by actual count, been out with ___ different rats in the last 6 months." How many rats has she been out with, not including Benny Shacklit?

Answer: 26

This statement is part of the setup for her big announcement that she intends to land Rusty Trawler as a husband.
11. What is Rusty Trawler's actual first name?

Answer: Rutherford

Rutherford "Rusty to his friends" Trawler, she drunkenly explains when she informs Paul of her intent to land him as a husband as a way of solving her money problems.
12. What is the name of the publication that buys Paul's story entitled "My Friend", in which he wrote about his experience meeting Holly?

Answer: Northwestern Review

We see it on paper when Paul receives the check for $50. Holly does mention, later in the film, that she has read two of Paul's stories in The New Yorker.
13. What number wife does Rusty Trawler marry (who is not Holly), as seen on the newspaper Paul finds outside Holly's apartment?

Answer: 4

Hard to believe a man described as "the one who looks like a pig" could be married four times, especially considering by wife number four, he was $700,000 in debt. "Broke? I mean not a farthing!"
14. Which of these items was not among the activities when Paul and Holly set out on their spree of "firsts", things at least one of them had never done before?

Answer: breakfast at Tiffany's

They didn't actually do "breakfast" at Tiffany's. Not only did they not eat while at the store, but the phrase actually refers to Holly's habit of eating a danish while standing in front of the Tiffany's window at dawn, after a long night of work, as we see her doing in the opening scene of the movie. So, although they did go to Tiffany's together, a first for Paul, "breakfast" at Tiffany's was not among their activities.

They had champagne at Holly's apartment first thing that morning which kicked off the firsts; Paul took Holly for her first visit to the library; and they shoplifted two plastic masks from a store at the end of the trip.
15. Paul and Holly had a difficult time trying to find something within their $10 budget at Tiffany's, but the salesman did his best to help. How much did the salesman say the sterling telephone dialer would cost?

Answer: $6.75, including tax

"Including Federal tax" he reiterates when Paul confirms the price. Ultimately, they opt have the Crackerjack ring engraved instead.
