Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does the NASA specialist, Al, come from?

Answer: Houston

When the workers are doing an interview at the start of the movie, Al says that he is married and has 2 boys back in Houston.
2. Does Rudy's mother know that he carries a gun for his security work at the Dish?

Answer: No

Janine asks this question when she brings food for the boys working. Rudy says that it is "Official NASA requirement" and tells her not to tell their mum!
3. What "extra" does Janine put on Glen's sandwich?

Answer: Cheese

Janine brings food to the boys but it she is really using it as an excuse to come and see Glen. Glen is too scared to talk to her.
4. Is the name of the Prime Minister ever mentioned in the movie?

Answer: No

The Prime Minister is always referred to as just that, the Prime Minister. However the actual Prime Minister at the time of the movie was John Gorton.
5. What is the name of the boy who likes Bob and May's daughter, Marie?

Answer: Keith

Keith is an army cadet who wants to go to war. Glen is the object of Janine's affection, Billy is Marie's little brother and Len is Bob's assistant.
6. When Glen finally gets around to asking Janine out, what night does he choose?

Answer: Friday

Glen is fixing Janine's bumper bar, and nearly lets the chance slip to ask her out. Mitch and Cliff are watching from high up on the dish, but Mitch walks back inside saying "this is painful"! Glen comes back with a very smug look on his face.
7. When the alarm goes off at the Dish, what is the wind speed?

Answer: 30 knots

When the wind speed reaches 30 knots, the dish becomes more dangerous to move. They have to make some fast decisions about whether they should move the dish, and in the end they have to, because of relay problems with the American radio telescope.
8. How long is the sleep break supposed to be when Armstrong and Aldrin land on the moon?

Answer: 8 hours

They are supposed to have a sleep break, and the boys at the Dish feel that this is time enough for the wind to die down and move the dish safely. Neil Armstrong overrules the sleep break so this creates a dilemma.
9. Why was Parkes chosen as the site of this large radio telescope?

Answer: Weather

The American Ambassador can answer this question. He says that Parkes has a stable climate that is good for the operation of large scale radio telescopes.
10. Finally, what was the date of the first moon landing?

Answer: 20th July 1969

This was one of the greatest events in history. I hope you have enjoyed my quiz on this Australian perspective of that event.
