Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Ocho Sentencias de Muerte', 1949, Dennis Price and Alec Guinness?

Answer: 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'

Dennis Price plays a young man who sets out to murder the eight people who stand between him and a large inheritance. Alec Guinness plays all eight victims in this very funny comedy.
2. 'Telefono Rojo: Volamos Hacia Moscow', 1964, Peter Sellers and George C. Scott?

Answer: 'Dr Strangelove'

'..Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb' to give the full title. Peter Sellers plays multiple roles in this black comedy directed by Stanley Kubrick.
3. 'La Taberna del Irlandes', 1963, John Wayne and Lee Marvin?

Answer: 'Donovan's Reef'

'Donovan's Reef' was the Duke's last feature with director John Ford. 'The Irish Pub' is a more or less literal translation and the other two choices both starred John Wayne, but without Marvin.
4. 'El Primer Caballero', 1995, Sean Connery and Richard Gere?

Answer: 'First Knight'

The powers who decide these things settled for a literal translation for this film directed by Jerry Zucker. The other choices starred either Connery or Gere, but not both.
5. 'Un Loco A Domicilio', 1996, Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick?

Answer: 'The Cable Guy'

'Madman In the House' could describe almost any film starring Jim Carrey, in my opinion, but it has been assigned to 'The Cable Guy'.
6. 'El Fuego y La Palabra', 1960, Burt Lancaster and Jean Simmons?

Answer: 'Elmer Gantry'

The Spanish presumably chose 'The Fire and the Word' as it is more descriptive of the plot than the original title. Lancaster also starred in both 'Rainmaker' and 'Birdman'.
7. 'El Cazador', 1978, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep?

Answer: 'The Deer Hunter'

Christopher Walken won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in 'The Deer Hunter'. There is a movie called 'The Hunter' but it was made in 1980 and starred Steve McQueen, and is shown as 'Cazador al Sueldo'('Salary Hunter') in Spain.
8. 'El Cazador de Recompensas', 1954, Randolph Scott and Marie Windsor?

Answer: 'Bounty Hunter'

Once again, this is a (more or less) literal translation.
9. 'Crimen Perfecto', 1954, Ray Milland and Grace Kelly?

Answer: 'Dial M For Murder'

Robert Cummings also starred in this Hitchcock thriller, which was filmed in 3D.
10. 'Bandido', 1956, Robert Mitchum and Ursula Thiess?

Answer: 'Bandido'

I apologise for what must seem like a trick question, but I could not resist. It seems not to have been necessary to re-title a film when the 'English' title was already in Spanish!
