Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (2003) "If you are fighting, stop fighting. If you are marching, stop marching. Come back to me. Come back to me is my request." - Ada Monroe

Answer: Cold Mountain

Ada Monroe barely got to know Inman before he had to leave to fight in the American Civil War. Now, with her father dead and her world turned upside down, she finds herself thinking about him often, and wishing that he would come home. This line is said to Inman, but over the distance of miles, as she wills him to return. Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger starred under Anthony Minghella's direction.
2. (1998) "And I don't want them dancing naked under the full moon!" - Sally Owens "No, of course. The nudity is entirely optional, as you well remember." - Aunt Jet Owens

Answer: Practical Magic

For more than a couple of generations, the Owens women have been gifted in the craft...witchcraft. Sally has tried hard to resist her gift and raise her daughters as normally as possible, although it hasn't been easy. When her Gillian gets herself into trouble with a very evil man, Sally hears her distress call. Unfortunately this means leaving her daughters in the care of her two eccentric aunts, who are on their way to a celebration of the summer solstice.

This dialogue is between Sally and her aunt, just before she leaves to rescue her sister. Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Aidan Quinn, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest star under Griffin Dunne's direction.
3. (2001) "All my life you made me believe I was only worth what someone would pay for me. But Christian loves me...he loves me! He loves me Harold, and that is worth everything. We are going away from you, away from the Duke, away from _________." - Satine

Answer: Moulin Rouge!

Set in the bohemian atmosphere of 1899 Paris, a beautiful courtesan is expected to court the affections of a rich Duke, who will then bankroll their play. Everything is going according to plan, until she finds love in the arms of the starving writer. This impassioned speech is her declaration of independence, an act that never happens because of her terminal illness. Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, and Jim Broadbent starred under Baz Luhrmann's direction.
4. (1993) "...but if you're looking for God, he was in operating room number two on Nov. 17th, and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something, I am God." - Dr. Jed Hill

Answer: Malice

Tracy and Andy are a young married couple who have just bought their dream home, and want to fill it with children. When Tracy gets rushed into the hospital, the emergency removal of her ovaries crushes that dream with the stroke of a scalpel. When the pathology comes back from the lab, it turns out that the procedure was not necessary. Tracy leaves her husband and sues the surgeon.

As the investigation procedes, he does not like having his judgement questioned, and responds with this quote. Nicole Kidman, Bill Pullman and Alec Baldwin starred under Harold Becker's direction.
5. (1995) "By the way, do you have a first name, or do I just call you Bat?" - Chase Meridian

Answer: Batman Forever

Dr. Chase Meridian is a psychologist who is trying to help Batman understand the twisted psyches of the Riddler and Two-Face. While she's at it, she certainly wouldn't mind getting to know the Caped Crusader better, and spends a fair amount of time flirting with him, with lines such as this one. Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell starred in this very campy movie, directed by Joel Shumacher.
6. (1999) "Why do you think Ziegler invites us to these things every year?" - Alice Harford "This is what you get for making housecalls." - Dr. Bill Harford

Answer: Eyes Wide Shut

When his wife confesses that she was tempted to cheat on him, Bill Harford overreacts. He embarks on a bizarre voyage of sexual adventure, seeing things he shouldn't see, and visiting places where he's clearly not welcome. This exchange occurs very near the beginning of the movie, at a Christmas party that they attend, before her admission sends him off the deep end. Rumours have abounded that it was the filming of this movie that caused the split up of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, although they have both denied this. Stanley Kubrick directed.
7. (1995) "You aren't really anybody in America if you're not on T.V." - Suzanne Stone Maretto

Answer: To Die For

Suzanne wants to be a television star, and she's willing to do anything necessary to achieve that goal...including convincing 3 teenagers to kill her husband. This quote was her philosophy in life, the mantra by which she justified her actions. Loosely based on the true story of Pamela Smart, this movie was directed by Gus Van Sant. Nicole Kidman, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck starred.
8. (2002) "But if it's a choice between Richmond and death, I choose death." - Virginia Woolf

Answer: The Hours

Based on the novel by Michael Cunningham, this movie tells the story of three different women battling depression in three different times. All three were bound together by the book "Mrs. Dalloway"', which was written by Virginia Woolf. Ordered by her doctors to avoid the hustle and bustle of the big city, Virginia finds herself dying a slow death of boredom in her exile.

This quote is from one of the times that she pleads with her husband to let her return to the city. Stephen Daldry directed Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, and Nicole Kidman in this film that won Kidman the Oscar for Best Actress.
9. (1993) "Dying's a really hard way to learn about life." - Bob Jones

Answer: My Life

Diagnosed with lung cancer, Bob Jones probably won't live long enough to see the birth of his first child. Wanting to leave something that his child will somehow know his or her father by, Jones decided to make a videotape. During the taping of this legacy, Jones finally comes to understand who he is, hence the above quote. Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman starred in this tear-jerker, under Bruce Joel Rubin's direction.
10. Okay, it's bonus question time. What actress starred in "Cold Mountain", "Far and Away", "The Hours", "The Others", and all of these other excellent movies?

Born on June 20th, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Nicole Mary Kidman moved to Australia with her family when she was about 3 years old.
