Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 'Star Wars' movies, this robot (built by Anakin Skywalker) was fluent in over 6,000,000 forms of communication.

Answer: C-3PO

C-3PO was a robot who, except for a pivotal role in 'Star Wars, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi', was mainly in the movies for comic relief. He also managed to annoy every other character at one time or another. He was the only robot in the entire series who was acted and voiced by the same actor, Anthony Daniels.
2. In 'A.I. - Artificial Intelligence', a couple adopted this robot after the death of their son.

Answer: David

The robot was named after its creator's son (played by William Hurt), and as with all good robots who aspire to be human, was ostracised from his surrogate family because he misunderstood normal human interaction. He almost killed his human step-brother. David was played by Haley Joel Osment.
3. What was the name of the little boy who was the second variety of infiltrator robot in the movie 'Screamers'?

Answer: David

The first variety was meant to prey on human sympathy, and was a screaming injured soldier that would lure others out to it and then dice them up rather gruesomely. When the humans figured out its method, the underground factories sent out the second variety, the David model, which also preyed on human sympathy. This movie was based on the short story 'Second Variety' by Philip K. Dick.
4. In 'Robocop 2', Murphy had to defend Delta City from OCP's newest Robocop, a cyborg named what?

Answer: Cain

Cain was a super-powerful, mostly robotic version of Robocop, but was addicted to a drug called Nuke. OCP thought they could control Cain with it, but all it did was make him insane when withdrawal hit him. Once again, Robocop had to come to the rescue.
5. In 'Back to the Future Part II', Marty McFly pretended to be his own son in order to confront this cyborg, a relative of Biff Tannen.

Answer: Griff

Griff had several malfunctioning implants, which made him slightly insane, which was pretty humorous. Many actors in the 'Back to the Future' movies played several different characters. Thomas F Wilson played the most characters, at seven. He played Biff Tannen at three different ages (and three different versions of himself in 1985) for five, his grandson Griff in 2015, and Buford 'Mad Dog' Tannen in 1885. Michael J. Fox played the most different characters, playing himself at two different ages, his son AND his daughter in 2015, and his great grandfather Seamus McFly in 1885.
6. In 'Heartbeeps', a robot named Val fell in love with this robot. They decided to leave their servant jobs and start a robot family.

Answer: Aqua

Val was played by Andy Kaufman, and Aqua was played by Bernadette Peters. This movie did so horribly at the box office that it killed Andy Kaufmann's next movie project, but got Stan Winston his first Oscar Nomination, for Best Makeup.
7. In 'Star Trek: Nemesis', Data and Picard found a decoy robot on a primitive planet that was almost an exact replica of Data. When they took it back to the Enterprise, it said its name was what?

Answer: B-4

The name B-4 implied that the decoy android was built 'before' Data was. It was a much simpler version of Data, and was built with only perfunctory functioning capabilities so that the villain could use it to gather information from the Enterprise. Brent Spiner played both B-4 and Data.
8. In 'Total Recall', this robot car drove Douglas Quaid around.

Answer: Johnny Cab

This rather poorly built robot was the worst special effect in the movie. Johhny Cab looked like someone had glued an animatronic ventriloquist's dummy in the driver's seat of a taxi. The rest of the effects in the movie were rather solid, especially the makeup. It was nominated for two Oscars, for sound editing (but not makeup).
9. In 'Superman III', she became an evil cyborg after being consumed by August Gorman's supercomputer. Who was she?

Answer: Vera Webster

The evil Ross Webster (played by Robert Vaughn) extorted August 'Gus' Gorman to get him to use computers to ruin others' businesses, which gave him a competitive edge in the business world. When Gus figured out that he was more valuable to Webster than Webster was to him, he got Webster to build his dream computer (which Webster later commandeered from him so he could destroy Superman with it).

When Gus's computer proved too powerful, even for Superman, Gus tried to destroy it, at which point it turned on them.

It consumed Webster's sister Vera, and turned her into an evil cyborg for some reason. The movie was pretty awful, despite being a box office success.
10. Hiram Flaversham was kidnapped by the evil Ratigan in 'The Great Mouse Detective' and was forced to make a robotic replica of someone. Who was it?

Answer: The Queen

Hiram Flaversham was a toymaker, and his daughter Olivia went to the mouse equivalent of Sherlock Holmes, Basil of Baker Street to get help in finding him when he was kidnapped. Of course, being modeled after Holmes, Basil figured out the plot and foiled it. The voicing cast consisted mainly of unknowns except for the evil Ratigan, who was voiced by Vincent Price.
