Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the character Billy Crystal voiced in "Monsters, Inc."?

Answer: Mike Wazowski

In the animated film "Monsters, Inc." (2001), Mike and Sulley live in Monstropolis and generate energy for the city by scaring children, until one shows up in their midst. Mike is a one-eyed round, green monster (jealous?) and Sulley is a big, horned hairy monster voiced by John Goodman. Michael 'Mike' Wazowski is a "deuterogonist" (second only to the protagonist) of the "Monsters, Inc." franchise, and Sulley's best friend, roommate and assistant. One day a two-year-old baby named Boo accidentally sneaks into Monstropolis with Sulley, and Sulley and Mike must find a way to sneak her back without anyone/anything else finding out.
2. Eliot Ness drafts Officer Jimmy Malone to be part of his team in "The Untouchables", but which actor played Malone?

Answer: Sean Connery

The 1987 film "The Untouchables" is based on real life government agent Eliot Ness and his special task force assigned to fight mobsters and corruption in the 1930s. Eliot Ness is played by Kevin Costner. Robert De Niro is 'Scarface' himself, Al Capone, and Sean Connery is Irish-American Officer Jimmy Malone, who is based on real life agent and member of The Untouchables, Marty Lahart. Malone is the one who tells Ness, "You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun.

He sends one of yours to the hospital. You send one of his to the morgue." This movie shows that Sean Connery is not just a handsome James Bond, but a fine actor as well.
3. I'm going to give you two sidekicks: a boy named Russell and a talking dog named Dug. What is the movie?

Answer: Up

They are both featured in the delightful 2009 comedy/fantasy "Up" (2009). This is the story of oldster Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner), a widower who never had a chance to take his beloved Ellie to Paradise Falls, a lost land in South America. When he is forced to go to a retirement home, he decides to attach hundreds of balloons to his house and fly to Paradise Falls himself.

Unfortunately, an eight-year-old Boy Scout named Russell, looking to get an "Assisting the Elderly" badge, also winds up on Carl's journey. On their adventures they encounter a talking dog named Dug, an evil villain (is there any other kind?) and a rare bird named Kevin.
4. What was the name of the sidekick played by Dana Carvey on "Wayne's World"?

Answer: Garth Algar

The incorrect choices are all roles performed by Dana Carvey on "Saturday Night Live" skits, but it is Garth Algar who is an important character in "Wayne's World" (1992). Wayne is played by Mike Myers, an 'air' guitarist who telecasts his public access show from the basement of his house. Garth is portrayed as pusillanimous and high-strung, and is Wayne Campbell's best friend.

When Garth would get over-excited, Wayne would say, "Take your Ritalin!". "Party on, Wayne!" "Party on, Garth!". In 2015, for the 40th Anniversary of "Saturday Night Live", Myers and Carvey reprised their roles.
5. Which actor plays Mini-Me in the second and third "Austin Powers" movies?

Answer: Verne Troyer

Mini-Me is Dr. Evil's sidekick in both "The Spy Who Shagged Me" in 1999 and "Goldmember" (2002). Mike Myers, former "Saturday Night Live" regular, portrays both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. It seems when Dr. Evil went back in time, his henchmen created a clone of him, but one-eighth the size, and he named the clone Mini-Me (a Minimi is a small Belgian machine gun - good trivia, huh?). Mini-Me has very little dialogue in the films, other than screaming "Eeeee!" and doing his evil laugh with Dr. Evil; he also likes to lip-sync and communicate by written notes.

In real life, Verne Troyer is 2 feet 8 inches tall due to cartilage-hair hypoplasia dwarfism.
6. Peter Mayhew appeared in the "Star Wars" movies, but whom did he play?

Answer: Chewbacca

You wouldn't recognize Peter Mayhew if you passed him on the street, but he was Han Solo's sidekick and co-pilot on The Millennium Falcon, a ship Solo won in a card game with Lando Calrissian. Chewbacca is a big, hairy Wookiee warrior from Kashyyyk called "Chewie" by his friends. Chebacca's height is listed as 7 feet 6 inches, his age is recorded as 200 years old and, due to his species' vocal structure, he can only speak Shyriiwook (a language composed mostly of grunts and growls). Peter Mayhew, on the other hand, is (only) 7 feet 2 inches tall and speaks with a British accent. Mayhew was in the original "Star Wars" trilogy beginning in 1977 and "Episode 3" in 2005.
7. Which sidekick is INCORRECTLY matched with his film series?

Answer: Emmett Brown/"Toy Story"

Dr. Emmett L. Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, was the sidekick of Marty McFly/Marty McFly Jr./Marlene McFly/Seamus McFly (Michael J. Fox) in the "Back to the Future" franchise in 1985, 1989 and 1990. Although Christopher Lloyd did appear in an animated movie, i.e. the 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as Judge Doom, he never voiced any of the characters in the original "Toy Story" or either of the following two sequels. Emmett Lathrop 'Doc' Brown is the inventor of the DeLorean time machine.

He was born somewhere around 1920 in Hill Valley, California; he had a pet dog named Copernicus in 1955 and one named Einstein in 1985.
8. In "Top Gun" who played Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell's sidekick, Goose?

Answer: Anthony Edwards

The 1986 movie "Top Gun" was the story of the students who attended the U.S. Navy elite fighter weapons school. They competed to see who was the best (the top gun). Among these 'hot-shot' pilots were Maverick (Tom Cruise) and his friend Goose. Goose was played by Anthony Edwards, who was also Dr. Mark Greene on the TV hospital drama "ER" from 1994 through 2008. Among the others in the film were: Tom Skerritt, an instructor named Viper, Maverick's nemesis Iceman (played by Val Kilmer) and Michael Ironside as Jester. And, of course, there was the obligatory love story between Maverick and Charlie Blackwood (played by Kelly McGillis).
9. In "The Matrix", what is the name of the character played by Laurence Fishburne?

Answer: Morpheus

The role of Morpheus is based upon a character in Neil Gaiman's 1989 comic book series "The Sandman". Morpheus is a teacher and an inspirational leader in "The Matrix" (1999) who is presented with the task of finding "The One", i.e. a person with superhuman abilities who could end the human/machine war.

When Morpheus encounters Neo (Keanu Reeves), he offers him the blue pill (to continue living in the world of illusion) or the red pill (to enter the world of reality). Now if Neo had chosen the blue pill, the movie would have been very short and with no possible sequels! Instead, the rest can be seen on Blu-Ray and DVD.
10. In 2009, there was (yet) another remake of "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, but who played his partner, Dr. John Watson?

Answer: Jude Law

Of all the many fictional sidekicks throughout history, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character Dr. Watson is, arguably, one of the most well-known. From Lucy Liu (on TV's "Elementary") and Martin Freeman to Nigel Bruce, Robert Duvall, Ben Kingsley, Dudley Moore, James Mason, Patrick Macnee and so many more, the list continues to grow almost every year. Who wouldn't want a sidekick, a friend, an assistant or a partner like Dr. Watson? I bet you didn't know that in Conan Doyle's early plot outlines, the character was called Ormond Sacker! As for Jude Law, he is a British actor who has appeared in many movies, like "Gattaca" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley".
