James Clavell directed this movie, which received the Laurel Award for 'Sleeper of the Year'. Sidney Poitier delivered a powerful performance, under James Clavell's direction. Lulu had a mega-hit with the theme song, which still receives plenty of radio air time every year as school gets out.

Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett were very funny together, despite numerous remarks Hartnett made afterwards, about how demanding Ford was to work with. Director Ron Shelton pokes fun at our dependency on cell phones, as the two detectives are very much glued to theirs.

The full title of this Gore Verbinski directed film is, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl', and like many Disney film's, it's full of "in" jokes, most of them from the ride itself.
Johnny Depp claims that his characterization of Sparrow was inspired in part by Keith Richards of 'The Rolling Stones', and in part by the 'Looney Tunes' character, Pepe Le Pew.

Brittany Murphy is very convincing as the tortured young lady to Michael Douglas' doctor, and Sean Bean's equally convincing bad guy. The scene that takes place in a subway station was actually filmed in an unused subway station in Toronto. The City of Toronto was so pleased with the set that they asked that it not be torn down, in the hopes that it might attract other movie crews.

Apparently Brad Pitt decided that he wanted to back out of the film, calling it a disaster, but was threatened with a lawsuit. The script underwent at least seven rewrites, and Pitt was decidely displeased with the final version, calling it a mess. Alan J. Pakula directed.
