Billy escapes the prison by killing a guard and wearing the guard's clothes in order to trick the other guards into opening the prison gate for him.

'Up in Smoke" is a comedy about two stoners (Cheech & Chong) who are trying to form a rock band so that they can get into a Battle of the Bands contest. While visiting Mexico, they unknowingly agree to drive a van constructed entirely from marijuana into the U.S. Through the entire movie, they are constantly being pursued by a bumbling narcotics detective named Sergeant Stedenko (Stacy Keach).

The astronauts figure out that for the hoax to be sure to work, they can never be seen again. Knowing that their lives are now in jeopardy, they try to escape their captors in order to expose the hoax.
