Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which of these movies did Cary Grant NOT star with Katherine Hepburn?

Answer: Only Angels Have Wings

Hepburn and Grant made four movies together, the other one being "Sylvia Scarlett". Hepburn had a say in casting "The Philadelphia Story", and chose Grant and Jimmy Stewart to be her two leading men. Jean Arthur starred in "Only Angels Have Wings".
2. What local crime keeps Hildy (Rosalind Russell) around a little longer in "His Girl Friday"?

Answer: Murder

In the classic comedy "His Girl Friday", Rosalind Russell plays Hildy Johnson, newspaperman Walter Burn's (Cary Grant) ex-wife. She is Walter's newspaper's top reporter, but she informs Walter she is leaving the paper to get remarried. When a murder is committed, Walter is able to convince Hildy to write a story on it and stay.

By the end of the film Hildy and Walter get back together, of course!
3. In "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer", what occupation did Myrna Loy's character have?

Answer: Judge

Cary Grant stars as Richard Nugent, a man who somehow gets mixed up in the lives of Susan (Shirley Temple) and her older sister Margaret (Myrna Loy), a judge.
4. Does Jean Arthur's character in "Talk of the Town" end up with Grant's character at the end of the movie?

Answer: Yes

Throughout the movie, there seemed to be a question of which man Nora (Arthur) would end up with: Leopold (Grant), who had just broken out of jail, or Professor Lightcap (Ronald Colman). The producers planned on filming two endings, but filmed the Grant ending first and decided to stay with it.
5. One of Grant's best movies is "The Philadelphia Story", which was remade in 1956 as "High Society", a musical. Who played Cary Grant's character, C.K. Dexter Haven?

Answer: Bing Crosby

Grace Kelly played Tracy Lord, Katherine Hepburn's character, and Frank Sinatra played Mike Connor, Jimmy Stewart's character. This remake certainly does not receive the praise "The Philadelphia Story" enjoys.
6. Which of these Cary Grant movies does NOT star Irene Dunne?

Answer: Arsenic and Old Lace

Irene Dunne and Cary Grant made a good pair. In "My Favorite Wife", Dunne plays a woman who was lost at sea, who returns home to find her husband remarried. In "Penny Serenade", Dunne plays a wife ready to leave her husband, but thinks of all the times they spent together.

In "The Awful Truth", the two play a married couple about to divorce, but the only thing keeping them together is the custody of their dog. Priscilla Lane co-starred in "Arsenic and Old Lace", a classic comedy about a man whose two old aunts are poisoning men and burying them in the basement.
7. One of Hitchcock's greatest films is "Notorious". What method do Alex Sebastian (Claude Rains) and his mother use when they attempt to kill the "notorious" woman Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman)?

Answer: They poison her.

Ingrid Bergman plays Alicia Huberman, an American woman whose father was a convicted Nazi. She is hired by Agent Devlin (Cary Grant) to rekindle her romance with Alex Sebastian, a suspected Nazi. Of course in the process she falls in love with Devlin. When Alex and his mother discover that Alicia is a spy, they poison her. Devlin saves her in the end.
8. Which of these Grant movies is NOT a "screwball comedy"?

Answer: Destination Tokyo

In "Destination Tokyo", Grant plays Captain Cassidy, the captain of a submarine on a special mission to Tokyo. This is a war film, and there is no screwball comedy.
9. Who plays Earl Victor Rhyall's (Grant) wife in "The Grass is Greener"?

Answer: Deborah Kerr

In "The Grass is Greener", Deborah Kerr's character is having an affair with Robert Mitchum's character, although she remains married in the end. Kerr also starred with Grant in "An Affair to Remember".
10. Which of these Cary Grant movies was NOT on AFI's "100 Years, 100 Movies" list?

Answer: Notorious

"Notorious" is considered to be one of Grant's finest movies, but it did not make the list. "North by Northwest" was number 40, "The Philadelphia Story" was number 51, and "Bringing Up Baby" just made it at number 97. Some nominated movies include "Only Angels Have Wings", "She Done Him Wrong", "The Awful Truth", "Gunga Din", "His Girl Friday", "Notorious", and "An Affair to Remember".

Thanks for playing, I hope you enjoyed it!
