Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Holly "buy everything from"?

Answer: Ebay

At the very beginning, Gerry and Holly argued about their finances. Gerry mentioned to Holly that if she was worried about money, then she should stop buying designer clothes. She replied, "I buy EVERYTHING on Ebay! It doesn't count when you're wearing... Marc Jacobs from Minneapolis!", as she grabbed her boot out of Gerry's hand.
2. What was Gerry's favourite song?

Answer: Fairytale in New York

The song "Fairytale in New York" by the Pogues was Gerry's favourite song. While the song played at his wake, his friends remembered Gerry and toasted his life.
3. What was the name of the second man Denise asked her relationship questions to?

Answer: George

Denise, at Gerry's wake, wanted to find a man to flirt with. First she approached one man, but he turned out to be gay, so she walked away. George happened to be single and straight, but he wasn't working, so she walked away. Thirdly, she confronted a guy who was single, straight and working, but was a terrible kisser, so she walked away. Finally, she found the man of her dreams, Tom, whom she ended up marrying.
4. Finish this quote, "Are you going to make me sleep in the _____ again?"

Answer: Bathtub

Gerry had told Holly's mum that she wasn't ready to have children and Holly didn't appreciate it. Gerry didn't know what he had done wrong, and he hoped that whatever he did wouldn't result in him sleeping in the bathtub. After a huge argument in their flat, they made up with each other, and Gerry slept in his bed.
5. Where was student Holly staying in Ireland?

Answer: Dun Laoghaire

Holly first met Gerry when she got lost in Wicklow National Park in Ireland. He told her where she was, and asked where she was staying. She replied that she was staying at "Dun Lao-g-hairy", and Gerry politely told her that it was pronounced, "Dun Leery". She found this very interesting, and they walked together to the town where she was staying.
6. According to Gerry, what was "a man's business"?

Answer: Kissing

Towards the end of Holly and Gerry's walk to Dun Laoghaire, Gerry told Holly about a bet in which he had to kiss his best friend's girlfriend without provocation. Holly was intrigued and asked him how he did it. Eventually, she told Gerry that she was seeing Timmy (but they hadn't done anything yet). Gerry replied, "Ah, he's a boyo. This is a man's business", and they kissed.
7. In which National Park did student Holly get lost?

Answer: Wicklow

Holly had been walking around Wicklow for a few hours without even realising! This was the first time Holly and Gerry met, and Gerry was surprised at how many colours were on one girl (Holly wore lots of brightly coloured clothes). Gerry kindly told her where she was, and which direction she needed to go in order to get back to Dun Laoghaire.
8. Which song did Holly sing at her first karaoke experience?

Answer: "Gett Off" - Prince

This, and the subsequent scene, are my favourites. They made me laugh so much! Gerry dared Holly to sing on the stage for $100. She was tired, overworked and really did not want to sing. However she stood up and said, "Make it 2" and got on stage. She rolled her shirt up to reveal her midriff, let her hair down and lowered her skirt slightly in preparation to sing "Gett Off" by Prince. During this performance, she tripped on some wires, causing her to fall and go to hospital. Holly ended up with teeth knocked out, a broken nose and a fair amount of blood!
9. Who could the singing delivery man be reported to, according to Holly?

Answer: The Leprechaun Union

This man, who had to deliver a letter to Holly, was dressed in green and had to sing to her before he delivered the letter. Holly wanted the letter but not the singing. When the man said that he could get reported, Holly replied, "By who, the Leprechaun Union?" After arguing, he gave the letter to Holly and she shut the door in his face.
10. Moving on to the letters now. Were all the letters Gerry wrote, during the film, to Holly?

Answer: No

He had written a series of letters to Holly, but he also wrote one to his mum and dad, one to Denise and one to Sharon. Gerry wrote the letters to Holly to help her move on after his death as he knew she would find it hard to get over him. He wrote the letter to his parents because he wanted them to know that he loved and missed them, but also wanted them to give Holly a letter for when she came to visit.

The two for Sharon and Denise were written so they would know that Gerry missed them and that he was preparing places for them in Heaven for being Holly's friends.
11. In which article of Gerry's clothing did the dry cleaners find a letter for Holly?

Answer: His leather jacket

In order for Holly to move on, Gerry instructed her to get rid of his things from their apartment. She could keep his leather jacket, but she was told in one of her letters to make some space and get rid of his clothes. She sent all his things to his parents in Ireland.
12. Finish the quote, "Go buy yourself a _______ outfit...you'll need it when my next letter comes!"

Answer: knockout

Gerry wanted Holly to look her best when she was to karaoke, so he wrote in one of his letters to buy a "knockout" outfit.
13. What is the missing word from one of Gerry's letters, "I want you to take her _______."

Answer: fishing

This quote was in Gerry's letter to Sharon. At the Irish house Gerry had booked for the three girls to stay, he had left two letters, one for Denise and one for Sharon. These letters were about how Gerry missed them and also what to get Holly to do such as going fishing and taking her to his favourite pub.
14. What did Gerry write here, "Go on _________! Karaoke this month. Perform and you never know, you may be rewarded."

Answer: disco diva

Gerry knew how much Holly hated karaoke after her last performance where she ended up in hospital. But he knew that she had to overcome this fear and wrote her the letter. Holly did not want to do it, but she knew that she would never feel right about not doing what Gerry requested from her.
15. Please complete my favourite quote. "I don't worry about you remembering me. Life had changed as we knew it, and now it's changed again ____."

Answer: love

This quote always made me cry! Gerry knew that Holly had to get over him in order to move on, and this part of the letter told Holly the fact that life always changes...and that she needed to as well.

I hope you enjoyed the quiz!
