Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Learning that Dolores Umbridge was the last known person to be in possession of the locket/horcrux, Harry, Ron and Hermione decide to go to the Ministry to try and find it. How do they get into the Ministry?

Answer: They flush themselves in.

Using Polyjuice Potion, they disguise themselves as three members of the Ministry of Magic. Following the crowd, they enter a washroom and join the lines outside the stall doors. We follow Ron and Harry into the men's washroom, with Hermione presumably entering through the women's. Men enter the stalls, but don't come out.

When our friends finally reach their turns, they realize that they have to stand in the actual toilet bowl and pull the chain. This flushes them down the bowl and into one of the fireplace entries of the Ministry.
2. The friends end up being split up, as demands made of the people they look like take them to different parts of the Ministry. They do eventually end up back together though. Where do they actually find the locket?

Answer: around Umbridge's neck

Although Harry does manage to get into Umbridge's office to look around, he isn't able to find the locket. It is Mad Eye's magical eye that is planted in the door to her office. In the book Harry makes sure that he retrieves that eye, because he hates to see it being used that way. Individually the three friend find themselves down in a courtroom-like room, where Dolores Umbridge is conducting an investigation into the blood status of a hapless witch. Harry spots the locket, around Dolores's neck.

The Polyjuice Potion begins to wear off and chaos ensues, during which Harry grabs the locket, before fleeing from the Ministry.
3. After leaving the Ministry, Harry is surprised to find himself in a wooded area. Why are they not returning to 12 Grimmauld Place?

Answer: They are followed to Grimmauld Place by a Death Eater.

Once the Polyjuice Potion starts to wear off, people begin to recognize Harry. This makes their escape more difficult and they have to fight their way out. As they run through the main lobby, grates are slamming down on the fireplace exits, but they manage to dive into one before it closes. Unfortunately Yaxley anticipates their move and dives in after them, grabbing hold of Hermione.

He apparates along with them, at 12 Grimmauld Place, making it no longer useful as a hideout. Hermione manages to shake him off and disapparate immediately away with Ron and Harry.

It is in this apparation that Ron's arm is splinched.
4. Why do they take turns wearing the locket?

Answer: Its evil influence puts whoever is wearing it in a foul mood.

When their initial attempts to destroy the horcux/locket fail, Harry puts it around his neck for safekeeping. When he starts getting angry at Hermione and yelling at her because she isn't doing enough to heal Ron, she instructs him to take it off. When he does, she asks him if he's feeling better and he replies "Loads".

Hermione announces that they will take turns wearing the locket. Although it affects whoever is wearing it, it seems to have the greatest effect on Ron.
5. After Ron leaves in anger (after a spell of wearing the locket), Hermione is very morose. What does Harry do to try to cheer her up?

Answer: gets her to dance with him

It's a pretty dark time for Harry and Hermione. Ron is gone and they don't have any idea of what they should be doing next. One night in the tent, the radio is playing music instead of listing names of people who have gone missing. Harry takes the locket off and lays it to the side for once.

He reaches his hand out to Hermione and pulls her up to start dancing. Initially his attempt seems to work as she smiles and even laughs a bit. But when the song ends, everything goes back to the way it was.
6. Harry and Hermione, for different reasons, each decide that it's time to go to Godric's Hollow. What day is it when they get there?

Answer: Christmas Eve

They are walking through Godric's Hollow and Hermione, listening to the music and voices from the houses around them, tells Harry that she thinks it's Christmas Eve. They wish each other a Merry Christmas, before following who they think is Bathilda Bagshot to her house. Harry wants to talk to Bathilda, because of her past association with the Dumbledores. Of course Bathilda is dead, and her body is being kept animated by Nagini.
7. Who saves Harry, when the locket/horcrux tries to drown him?

Answer: Ron

One night, when Harry is taking his turn keeping watch, he is attracted by a patronus of a doe. He follows it to a frozen pond, in which he can see the Sword of Gryffindor. When magic doesn't bring the sword to him, he takes off his clothes, but not the locket, and dives into the frigid water (after breaking the ice with a spell). Whether recognising the danger of the sword, or just seeking an opportune moment, the locket begins to strangle Harry while he is under water, preventing him from reaching the sword.

As Harry begins to give up the fight, Ron (who had been absent until this point) dives in, grabs the sword and pulls Harry to the surface.
8. What names do Harry and Hermione give the Snatchers, when they are captured by them?

Answer: Vernon Dudley and Penelope Clearwater

The Chasers have a list of undesirables - people whom the Ministry wants to see captured, mostly because of impure wizard blood. Knowing that their names will be on the list, and that Harry's name will be recognised by anyone, they give false names.
Vernon Dudley is a combination Harry's cousin and uncle's names and Penelope Clearwater was a student and a Prefect at Hogwarts, in the earlier books and movies.
9. Despite the false name and Hermione's attempts to disguise his face, Harry is familiar enough to arouse suspicion in the Snatchers and they are taken to the Malfoy's manor, which is being used as headquarters of the Death Eaters. Because the Sword of Gryffindor is found in her bag, Hermione is questioned (tortured) by Bellatrix LeStrange, while Ron and Harry are locked up in the basement. Who else do they find imprisoned there?

Answer: Luna, Griphook and Ollivander

Luna Lovegood has been taken to stop her father from writing articles, in his newspaper, that support Harry Potter. In fact a visit to Xenophilius Lovegood results in a near capture by Death Eaters, as Xenophilius hopes to exchange Harry for Luna. Ollivander was taken (in the previous movie) to be questioned by Voldemort on the connection between his and Harry's wands, and also to talk about the Elder Wand.

It is not explained in the movie why Griphook has been imprisoned.
10. Dobby apparates into the cellar, to help them escape. He disapparates with some of the prisoners, telling Harry to meet him at the top of the stairs. Dobby gets them out of the basement and they battle the Death Eaters, to escape with Hermione. Before they go, Harry takes the wand away from one of the Death Eaters. Whose wand does Harry take?

Answer: Draco Malfoy's

Although Draco is indeed a Death Eater, complete with mark on his forearm, it is obvious that he knows he is in far over his head. However fear of the Dark Lord is enough to keep him in line and he puts up a rather half-hearted attack against Harry. Before disapparating with Dobby, Ron and Hermione, Harry grabs Draco's wand.

This almost offhand event proves to be fairly important in "Part 2", as those of us who have read the book will know!
