Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first item that gets Michael Jennings out of trouble is a pack of cigarettes. What is the brand on the pack of cigarettes?

Answer: Spirit Lake

The package says the cigarettes are smokeless, but they turn out not to be. When Agent Dodge (Joe Morton) lights a cigarette, he sets off the smoke detector. This releases Jennings from his shackles and allows him to escape from the FBI. In the original time line, Jennings died in FBI custody at 3:03 p.m.
Red Apple cigarettes are used in Quentin Tarantino films. Morley has been used in many TV shows and films, including "The X-Files." American Spirit is a real brand of cigarette.
2. Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck) escapes from the FBI agents by using a pair of special sunglasses. What color are the sunglasses?

Answer: Gold

The gold sunglasses allow Jennings to see in the cloud of gas released by the fire suppression system. He overpowers several FBI agents and escapes. The glasses he gave to Wolfe (Colm Feore) when he entered AllCom for this first time were black.
3. In escaping the FBI right after the interrogation scene, Michael Jennings uses the only item that is common to both the film and the original Philip K Dick story. What item helps him get away?

Answer: Bus pass

A bus ticket enables Jennings to pass through the gates at the bus station, and evade the feds amid the moving buses. The pass served a similar purpose in the original story.
The route number on the bus ticket is "14". But when Jennings gets off the bus chasing the thief, there is a brief glimpse of the bus with "44" as the route number. While the movie is set in Seattle, most of the principal filming was done in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The serial number of the bus pass was ANT 079378.
The length of wire allows Jennings to escape from the police in the Philip K Dick story. The wrench and keycard are in the film.
4. Why does Michael Jennings include the diamond ring among the items he sent to himself?

Answer: To attract a thief

The thief steals the diamond, and forces Jennings to get off the bus right outside Reddy-Grant, the financial firm which handles his affairs.
In an alternate ending for the film, Jennings sees the thief, recovers the ring and proposes to Rachel. The thief, under the credit "Street Kid," was played by Ryan Zwick.
5. Michael Jennings included a fortune cookie fortune among the items in the envelope. Finish the phrase on the fortune: "If you only look where you can't go..."

Answer: You will miss the riches below.

The back of the fortune has the winning lottery numbers: 17, 44, 04, 26, 37, 40 and 22. The prize in the Emerald State Lottery is $90 million. When Jennings sees the lottery numbers, he realizes that he invented a machine which was able to see the future.
6. In the train station, Michael Jennings hands Shorty a key for the janitor's closet. What name is printed on the key?

Answer: Edison

The name of the janitorial company is Edison. Shorty takes the key, enters the service room, and kills the lights for the station. "I hope that was a good thing," says Shorty (Paul Giamatti). The darkness hinders the aim of Wolfe's henchmen as they shoot, and gives Jennings a slight advantage in the fight.
Decker is the scientist that Jennings is working with.
7. Michael Jennings uses a lighter to help him escape from Wolfe's henchmen. What color is the lighter?

Answer: red

Jennings combines the lighter with a can of hair spray to create a make-shift flame thrower. James Bond used that technique in "Live and Let Die." (1973) The flame thrower blinds the henchmen, and they shoot each other in the confusion. Jennings is able to steal one of their guns, which comes in handy in a face off with Wolfe (Colm Feore). Face-offs involving guns are a common theme in John Woo films.
8. Jennings uses a can of hair spray at a critical movement to escape. What is the brand name of the hair spray?

Answer: Salon

Michael Jennings uses the lighter with the hair spray to create a flame thrower. The confusion allows him to escape from Wolfe's henchmen. He grabs one of the bad guy's guns, which enables him to escape from Wolfe by dropping the clip onto the third rail in the subway and causing a small explosion. This disorients Wolfe long enough for Jennings to escape.
9. Jennings uses a paperclip to short circuit an electrical system. Where does he use it?

Answer: In the subway

Michael Jennings uses the paperclip to trip the brakes on the subway. He comes inches away from being run over by train number 162. The production crew built the train set, which was 300 feet long. Seattle has an above-ground rail system, but not an underground. (At least they didn't in 2007, the year the film was supposed to be taking place).
10. One of the critical clues Michael Jennings finds is on a matchbook. What is the name of the phony business on the matchbook?

Answer: New Liberty Savings

New Liberty Savings, the non-existent bank, covers up Café Michel, the spot where Jennings is supposed to meet Rachel. Jimmy Rethrick figures this out and sends in an impostor, Maya (Ivana Milicevic), to discover how Jennnings is beating him. What trips Maya up is her failure to know that Jennings' favorite baseball team is the Boston Red Sox (which happens to be Ben Affleck's favorite team; the line was originally supposed to be "New York Yankees," but Affleck balked at playing a Yankees fan). What's strange is that Rehrick knows about the Red Sox (he sent a note earlier in the film about them), but doesn't tell Maya the answer.
