Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It's 1961. Kitty Kyle is standing in the pouring rain when he sees a strange thing. A woman throws a cat out of a taxi. The woman is called Holly. The cat is called Cat. The cat is a metaphor for the woman. What is the movie called?

Answer: Breakfast at Tiffany's

"I'm like Cat here, a no-name slob. We belong to nobody, and nobody belongs to us. We don't even belong to each other."

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" starred George Peppard, Audrey Hepburn (Holly Golightly), Mickey Rooney and Cat. Truman Capote, who wrote the original novella, had wanted Marilyn Monroe as Holly but was overruled. It's not known whether he had any views on who should play Cat.

Here's a film that has violence against animals (well, a cat), prostitution, a drug ring and commitment problems yet manages to pull it off as a great romantic comedy. For anyone concerned about Cat, Hepburn and Peppard go searching and, in finding Cat, they find each other.
2. It's 1963. Kitty Kyle is visiting a friend who will become an iconic screen image. The cat does not appear to be called anything. It is owned by a man called Mr Blofeld. What is the movie called?

Answer: From Russia With Love

Blofeld's white Persian cat is never given a name. It appears in "From Russia with Love", "Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "Diamonds Are Forever" and, fleetingly, "For Your Eyes Only".

The plot of "From Russia With Love" involves a defecting Russian, SPECTRE, an encryption device, fights, deaths and a beautiful woman. Heck, what did you expect from a Bond movie?

It has been suggested that, if the cat lost a life with Blofeld in "For Your Eyes Only", it might now be named Octopussy.
3. It's 1999. Kitty Kyle is on a landing. A black cat walks past him. Then another black cat walks past him. Or is it the same black cat? Someone calls it déjà vu. What is the movie called?

Answer: The Matrix

"[Neo sees a black cat walk by them, and then a similar black cat walk by them just like the first one]
Neo: Whoa. Déjà vu.
[Everyone freezes right in their tracks]
Trinity: What did you just say?
Neo: Nothing. Just had a little déjà vu.
Trinity: What did you see?
Cypher: What happened?
Neo: A black cat went past us, and then another that looked just like it.
Trinity: How much like it? Was it the same cat?
Neo: It might have been. I'm not sure.
Morpheus: Switch! Apoc!
Neo: What is it?
Trinity: A déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when they change something." (Source : IMDb)

In "The Matrix", Thomas Anderson aka Neo (Keanu Reeves) discovers that the world he knows is actually a computer program acting upon the brains of humans, while their sleeping bodies are being "milked" for energy by the machines that have taken control. He joins a band of rebels led by the charismatic Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). The movie won four Oscars for sound, effects (two) and editing.
4. It's 1979. Kitty Kyle is visiting his friend called Jones, which entails a trip into space. It's an out of this world experience that will soon turn into an out of body experience. What is the movie called?

Answer: Alien

"Brett: Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Meaow. Here Jonesy."

"Alien" is the first in a series of very successful films. Its cast includes Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt and Ian Holm. The movie explores what happens when the crew of a spaceship, unwittingly, bring an alien life form onto their vessel. Jones (aka Jonesy) is the ship's cat. One of the film's most famous scenes involves the alien bursting forth from the inside of a crew member's chest. I won't give anything more away except to say ... Jones survives!
5. It's 1972. Kitty Kyle is surreptitiously watching America's first X rated cartoon. It features a fox called Winston Schwartz; a crow called Duke and, of course, a cat. What is the film called?

Answer: Fritz the Cat

The movie was based upon a comic strip by Robert Crumb and is based upon life in America in the late 60s and early 70s. It includes sex, drugs, more sex, more drugs and, did I mention sex and drugs? In other words, there's plenty to justify its rating.
6. It's 2004. Kitty Kyle has come across a strange creature. It's a ginger cat that walks upright in boots, wears a cape and sports a large black hat with a yellow feather. The cat's called Puss and accompanies a donkey called Donkey. What is the film called?

Answer: Shrek 2

In "Shrek 2", Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is an assassin hired by King Harold (John Cleese) to eliminate Shrek (Mike Myers). After this fails, the plot revolves around love potions, love rivals and, ultimately, whether it's better to be human or ogre.

Puss in Boots reappeared in "Shrek the Third" (2007) and a spin-off movie, "Puss in Boots: Story of an Ogre Killer", is planned for 2011.
7. It's 1997. Here's Kitty Kyle with a cat called Mr Bigglesworth. He's on the lap of a bald man called Douglas but we're clearly still in the realm of absurd dress as there's another man who looks like he's walked straight out of the sixties. What is the film called?

Answer: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my underground lair. I have gathered here before me the world's deadliest assassins, and yet each of you has failed to kill Austin Powers. That makes me angry. And when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset... people DIE!"

This was the first in the series of Austin Powers films, themselves a spoof on the James Bond movies. Mr Bigglesworth is a hairless Sphinx cat that parodies the white Persian cat owned by Bond's nemesis Blofeld. His owner is Dr Evil who, in "Austin Powers in Goldmember", will be revealed as Powers' brother, Douglas.

In "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery", the secret agent Austin Powers (Mike Myers) is returned to active duty, having been cryptogenically frozen for three decades. He has to save the world from the plans of Dr Evil (also Mike Myers) who is demanding a huge ransom in return for not detonating a nuclear weapon. Powers is aided by the beautiful Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley) and has to contend with fembots, robots with sex appeal.
8. It's 1972. Kitty Kyle has found a stray cat that's lucky enough to have been called up to act in a movie. This is the opening scene of a film that spawned two sequels. The cat is sitting on the lap of a man called Don. What is the movie called?

Answer: The Godfather

Yes, he is really called Don Vito Corleone but I thought that Vito might be a little too obvious. "The Godfather" told the story of the Corleone family in the decade from 1945. The movie won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone) and Best Adapted Screenplay. Brando refused to accept his Oscar to draw attention to discrimination against Native Americans.

The cat featured in the movie was a stray from the parking lot of Paramount Pictures. (Source : IMDb)
9. It's 2001. Kitty Kyle has gone to school and is sitting in class with his friend called Mrs Norris. Suddenly, a tabby cat turns into a teacher. Someone calls it, "bloody brilliant!" What is the movie called?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

"Ron: [Harry and Ron arrive late to Transfiguration, relieved that Professor McGonagall isn't there yet] Whew, made it. Can you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?
[the cat sitting at the head of the class suddenly transforms into her]
Ron: That was bloody brilliant!
Professor McGonagall: Well, thank you for that assessment, Mr Weasley. Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to transfigure Mr Potter and yourself into a pocket watch? That way, one of you might be on time.
Harry: We got lost.
Professor McGonagall: Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats."

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" aka "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is the first in the series of films that chronicles Harry's life at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the movie, Harry has to adjust to boarding school life and thwart the efforts of the evil Lord Voldemort to steal the Sorcerer's Stone. This stone, which guarantees immortality to its owner, is being held, under guard, at the school.

Mrs Norris is a cat belonging to the school's caretaker, Argus Filch.

Several characters in the series of movies are revealed to be animagi, humans capable of transforming into animals. As well as Minerva McGonagall, this ability is shared by James Potter (Stag), Sirius Black (Dog), Peter Pettigrew (Rat) and Rita Skeeter (Beetle).
10. It's 2000. Kitty Kyle is visiting a friend called Mr. Jinx. Here is a family around the dinner table and a young man, called Gaylord, who is actually talking about milking cats. It brings tears to Kitty Kyle's eyes. As the young man calls it, he could milk anything with nipples. What is the movie called?

Answer: Meet the Parents

"Pam Byrnes: I had no idea you could milk a cat!
Greg Focker: Oh, you can milk just about anything with nipples.
Jack Byrnes: [He reacts] I have nipples, Greg, could you milk me?"

In "Meet the Parents", Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Ben Stiller) spends the weekend with his girlfriend and her parents, in order to ask her father Jack (Robert De Niro) for her hand in marriage. It's a real comedy of errors with Jack, who is retired from the CIA, making life as difficult as possible.

Mr Jinx (aka Jinx) was played by two Himalayan cats called Bailey and Misha. (Source : Wikipedia)
