Historical note: According to Msgr. (Col.) James H. O'Neill (Chief Chaplain of the Third Army and the writer of this prayer), it was not written on the drive to Bastogne, but in Nancy, France a few weeks earlier. He did, however, receive a Bronze Star for writing it.
