Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first scene showed Rocky waking up from his bed. He fed his turtles, Cuff and Link, and then headed to the cemetery to sit near the grave of someone dear to him, who had passed away. Who died?

Answer: Adrian

Adrian's grave stated that she died in 2002, four years before the events of the film. Rocky told one of his old acquaintances that she died because of a woman cancer, which the "Rocky Ultimate Guide", described, as ovarian cancer. The movie emphaszed that Rocky had a high level of difficulty in letting life go on, after Adrian's death.
2. After folding up his chair in the graveyard, Rocky headed to his restaurant, which he happened to name after his wife. There, the viewers of the film were reintroduced to the first ever character from the "Rocky" film, apart from Rocky himself. Who was it?

Answer: Spider Rico

Spider Rico, was Rocky's opponent in Rocky's first ever, on-screen bout, in 1976. Rocky was merely a prize-fighter then, and was fighting in a church. After Spider Rico head-butted Rocky in the second round, Rocky went mad and knocked Spider Rico to the canvas. Rocky allowed him to eat for free in his restaurant, simply because of the impact he'd had on him. Spider Rico was bold enough to tell Rocky that Rocky beat him all on account of luck.
3. After meeting an old acquaintance, named Marie, Rocky went with Paulie to go reminisce about Adrian's passing. To which of the following places, did Rocky not take Paulie?

Answer: Paulie's house, where Rocky first got Adrian to go on a date with him

Rocky, even four years later, couldn't let go of his departed wife. He seemed to reminisce about a joyful moment in his life, everywhere he took Paulie. He told Paulie how he tried to get Adrian to trust him in front of his old apartment, and how he stopped her from falling, in the now-demolished skating rink. Paulie was not happy, during their trip, because he knew Rocky was nice to her, but he understood that he was never nice to her. All the memories Rocky had, were bad ones for Paulie.
4. The heavyweight champion of the world was Mason "The Line" Dixon. Mason successfully defended his title at one point in the film. Seeming invincible, he and his entourage were proud of their victory. Everyone in the crowd was cheering and rooting for the young man, after his victory.

Answer: False

After knocking out his opponent in an easy first round victory, Mason expected the crowd to be thrilled, and ecstatic over the fight. What he found was that the crowd was hostile, and booing at him. The reason for that was, like in "Rocky III" with Rocky, Mason's opponents for the defenses were hand-picked. Mason's pride was at an all-time low, and needed a boost.
5. In a segment of "Man Vs. Machine", on the ESPN Network, in the film, a computer simulation was done of a fight between Rocky Balboa, in his prime, and Mason "The Line" Dixon. Which of the two boxers came out on top, in the simulation?

Answer: Rocky Balboa

In a thrilling, three-dimensional simulation, using modern rules and equipment, Rocky Balboa and Mason Dixon went toe-to-toe. Rocky Balboa won by knockout in the thirteenth round, to claim a virtual victory over the heavyweight champ. The virtual match annoyed Mason, but inspired Rocky to try his hand at boxing, once again.
6. After acquiring his boxing license, due to some persuasive words, Rocky wanted to get back into the rink and fight in some small bouts. After Paulie got fired from the meat-packing plant, he volunteered to help Rocky, in his training. Mason's manager visited Rocky's restaurant to persuade Rocky to fight his champ. Where was the bout set to take place?

Answer: Las Vegas

After being offered to fight, Rocky accepted and was informed that the fight would take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the reasons for this, given by Dixon's manager, was because Philadelphia was far too cold, and that fighters perform better in warmer climates. The exciting bout was eventually fought in the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
7. At the press conference, before the match, Rocky and Mason, were targeted by the press. Mason defended himself, but Rocky said nothing, despite being called a has-been. On Rocky's panel were three people. Which of the following wasn't one of them?

Answer: Marie

Duke Evers was Apollo Creed's trainer in the first two films, then Rocky's from the end of the third film on. Steps was the son of Marie, a returning character from the first film, and Paulie was Adrian's brother, who was a nice person at heart, but a violent drunk. Marie supported Rocky in his fight, but was not actually part of the promotional panel.
8. Duke had to find a training regime suitable for the aging Rocky. He said that hard-running, and sparring were out of the question. What did Duke call the style that Rocky was going to train for?

Answer: Blunt force trauma

Due to arthritis, and calcium deposits in Rocky's knees, a new training regime had to be created, to make him a worthy contender for Mason Dixon. His training was comprised of jogging, and lots of heavy lifting to make his hits as powerful as possible. Like the original film, a scene of Rocky running up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Gallery with his dog was included.
9. Before starting the bout, Spider Rico gave a blessing to Rocky. Like his other fights the first round was where Rocky was devastated and bombed by attacks. That first round did not fare well for Rocky, but in the second round, Mason Dixon suffered a minor injury, that allowed Rocky to rebound. What did Mason "The Line" Dixon injure?

Answer: His left hand

Mason attacked low on Rocky, but awkwardly landed his hit, hurting his hand in the process. That was the opportunity Rocky needed to take over the fight. Duke pressured Rocky to start the hurtin' bombs. Rocky knocked Dixon down, in that same round, the first time anyone was ever able to do that. Mason did get up, however, and put up a hard fight until the very end.
10. Who ended up winning the real fight, between Rocky and Mason?

Answer: Mason Dixon

The fight was an exhilarating one. The first round saw Mason hit away at Balboa, and seemingly emphasize the belief that skill triumphs over will. Rocky, under some divine circumstances, bounced back in the second to knock Mason down. The entire match was in that back and forth fashion, until the tenth round.

The tenth round was a slower round between two very tired people. In the end, both fighters were standing, but one had to prevail. By a split decision, Mason "The Line" Dixon won the bout, but Rocky left with more dignity than he entered the ring with.

His son's support during the match, his loyal fans, and memories of Apollo Creed, Adrian, and Mick gave him a reason to keep going. As a result, he went the distance with a 33 year old, despite being 60.
