Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cheeseburgers and Bourbon

Answer: The Insider

Russell used a diet of cheeseburgers and bourbon to put on weight to play Jeffrey Wigand in 'The Insider'.
2. A costar with higher billing told him 'I wanna play YOUR character'.

Answer: Virtuosity

Said by Denzel Washington after seeing Russell having so much fun with the role of Sid 6.7.
3. Aldo Ray

Answer: L. A. Confidential

Curtis Hanson had Russell pattern Bud White's machismo on Aldo Ray. Russ watched movies of Aldo Ray and had the picture Curtis gave him in his script when they started shooting.
4. Russell cooking dinner over an oil can.

Answer: Proof of Life

Rather than risk the treacherous daily drive to the mountain set of POL, Russ decided to risk the wildcats and camp in his on-set trailer and he cooked his dinner with food stolen from the caterers and used an oil can as his stove.
5. Took the role to have some fun and shock moviegoers.

Answer: The Sum of Us

People remembered his sadistic Neo-Nazi Hando from 'Romper Stomper', he took the role of sensitive gay plumber Jeff Mitchell to shock the audience with a 180 degree turn around in role.
6. An eight hour shoot most of the time with a rope around his neck

Answer: The Quick and the Dead

The supporting actors were all amazed at how he was able to endure the shoot.
7. His bicep tendon tore while preparing for this movie.

Answer: Flora Plum

His shoulder was injured in 'Gladiator' due to the heavy shield, the injury was aggravated in 'Proof of Life', and the tendon tore while in pre-production for 'Flora Plum'. The movie got cancelled because of the injury. Ron Howard postponed the start of filming of 'A Beautiful Mind' by three months so Russ could complete the 7 month recuperation period.
8. After all that bluescreen work, Russ just wanted to return to old fashioned film-making so he filmed this one.

Answer: Breaking Up

The question is the interesting bit in itself. :) In 'Virtuosity' he had so much bluescreen work that 'Breaking Up' was a welcome throwback to simple film making. Though 'Breaking Up' was the one he filmed immediately after 'Virtuosity', the movie was released two years later (they waited for Russ and Salma Hayek to become more famous) that's why it appears out of sequence in his filmography.
9. His cheek got punctured.

Answer: Gladiator

His horse got scared of the fire and backed up. A tree branch went through his cheek. The wound visible in the early part of the movie was real. Though there was a 'hand nailing' scene in 'Heaven's Burning', some blood on his cheek in 'Virtuosity', and a 'cut' on his right eyebrow in 'Proof of Life', these were makeup or effects.
10. Russ grew his fingernails long.

Answer: A Beautiful Mind

He felt his fingers were too 'sausage-like' and grew his fingernails so he would develop the grace of Nash's slender fingers.
