Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the movie, what does the acronym S.W.A.T. stand for?

Answer: Special Weapons And Tactics

At the beginning of the movie, Jim Street (Colin Farrell) and Brian Gamble (Jeremy Renner) were two of the S.W.A.T. officers who responded to a bank robbery. The robbers were holding bank employees and customers hostage inside the bank. Both officers entered the bank through a roof access.

While observing the activities inside the bank, the lieutenant ordered the officers to "hold their positions." Fearing that a hostage was about to be killed, Officer Gamble violated the hold order, and fired a bullet that went through the shoulder of the hostage, striking the suspect.

As a result of their actions, both officers were removed from S.W.A.T. Six months later, the new S.W.A.T. team leader, Lt. Harrelson, gave Officer Street a second chance at becoming a team member. Street again found himself as part of a new S.W.A.T. team.
2. At the beginning of the movie, how many gunman attempted to rob the Valley Trust Bank?

Answer: Four

In the movie, S.W.A.T. officers were able to successfully resolve the situation, killing the four suspects and rescuing the hostages inside the bank. In the bank, one robber was shot by Officer Gamble (Jeremy Renner). Gamble's bullet struck a female hostage in the upper shoulder, then traveled through her body, fatally striking the suspect. Gamble's actions violated the supervising lieutenant's order to "Hold your position". This action lead to Gamble's removal from S.W.A.T., along with Street, who had been forced to follow and back up his partner.

This scene was in part based on an actual 1997 bank robbery involving LAPD S.W.A.T. Two heavily armed gunmen wearing ski masks and body armor, attempted to rob a North Hollywood Bank of America branch. Over 1,100 rounds were fired from automatic weapons at innocent bystanders, responding police personnel, and news helicopters reporting the robbery live on television. In the end, 6 bystanders and 11 police officers were shot. All survived. One robber committed suicide by shooting himself in the head during his escape from the bank, and the other robber was shot and killed by S.W.A.T. during his escape. Before it was over, LAPD officers had to borrow heavy duty weapons from a local gun shop to match the fire power of the gunmen. In the movie, all four robbers were killed by S.W.A.T. officers, two outside the bank, two inside the bank. As both actual gunmen died during their escape, the movie took a few "creative liberties", but most of the basic facts, along with much of the police radio broadcast, were accurate.
3. Which actor played Deke's father?

Answer: Rod Perry

The role of Deke's father was a minor one in the movie. In his only scene, Deke's father was seen bringing food to the table of the new S.W.A.T. officers celebrating in his restaurant. The team had passed their final qualification test by eliminating a hijack threat on a plan, in a simulated exercise. Deke's father hugged his son to congratulate him as Lt. Harrelson proclaimed, "Continue celebrating tonight, because tomorrow we're S.W.A.T."
Rod Perry also played the role of Sgt. David "Deacon" Kaye in the 1975 television series "S.W.A.T.".
4. Which actor appeared in two scenes that were actually shot more than 25 years apart?

Answer: Steve Forrest

In the movie, Boxer (Brian Van Holt) was seen at home watching a re-run of "S.W.A.T." on television, as his wife asked him about fixing the sink. The scene on the television showed a younger Steve Forrest speaking the line "This is Lt. Harrelson, Olympic S.W.A.T commander".
In one of the final scenes of the movie, a grey haired Steve Forrest was seen driving the S.W.A.T. vehicle, asking, "Where to boys?"
5. The car that cold blooded crime boss Alex Montel (Olivier Martinez) was driving, was stopped on Sunset Blvd. by two motorcycle cops, across from which Hollywood location?

Answer: Key Club

While Montel was talking to the police officer, the sign "Key Club" was visible over the officer's shoulder.

The girl on the street with the microphone also identified the location as, "The Key Club on Sunset Blvd. in beautiful Hollywood." She then yelled at the officers, "Hey you guys, You're all pigs, ha ha." That girl was played by adult film actress Bridget Powers.
6. During the attempt to free Alex from the Sheriff's Department transit bus, how many of the people shot during the gunfight were wearing law enforcement uniforms?

Answer: Four

All four victims wore uniforms. Two uniformed sheriff's deputies were slain on the bus. The two gunmen attempting to free Alex wore LAPD uniforms.
7. When Alex was apprehended in Hollywood, following the failed attempt to rescue him from the Sheriff Transport bus, he was handcuffed and thrown to the ground by the officers. Whose star on the famed "Hollywood Walk of Fame" did Alex find himself face down on?

Answer: Alex Trebek

Alex was lying face down on the sidewalk. His face was partly covering the celebrity name on the star. Ironically, the first name "Alex" could be seen. As he was pulled up from the ground by the arresting officers, the full name on the star was revealed.

The star was that of television game show host Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy". The three actors listed as possible answers all starred in early television police series. Jack Webb starred in "Dragnet" as Sgt. Joe Friday from 1951-1959, and again from 1967 - 1970. Broderick Crawford starred in "Highway Patrol" as Chief Dan Matthews from 1955 - 1959, and Steve Forrest starred in S.W.A.T. as Lt. Dan "Hondo" Harrelson from 1975 - 1976.
8. Officer Chris Sanchez (Michelle Rodriguez) had a young daughter. What was her name?

Answer: Eliza

At her birthday party attended by Officer Street, the sign on the wall of the outside playhouse said, "Happy Birthday Eliza."
It was during the party that Officer Sanchez received her first S.W.A.T. call when her pager went off. Before leaving the party, she hugged her daughter, and told her, "Mommy has to go play cops and robbers."
9. What commercial product was NOT seen in the film?

Answer: Hertz Rent-A-Car

Both Gus (James DuMont) and Boxer were seen drinking a can of Dr. Pepper. Gus enjoyed his drink while working in the gun cage with Street and Boxer drank his beverage while at home watching television.

There was a can of Canada Dry Ginger Ale on display at the hot dog cart where Officer Street, Sgt. Harrelson, and Officer Burress ordered lunch.

Gus was seen eating McDonalds' food in the gun cage.
10. While being transported in the SUV by S.W.A.T. officers, how much money did Alex offer each of the officers to let him go?

Answer: $66,000,000.00

Alex told the three officers, "Hey my friends, I can double my offer. Sixty-six million dollars for each of you. Just let me out here, and don't worry, I'll find my way home."
Street's reply was, "I hope you have cash because we don't accept a check."
