Director Francis Lawrence's "I Am Legend" is adapted from Robert Matheson's 1954 novel, an early literary example of the zombie genre. Actor Will Smith's daughter, Willow, makes an appearance in the film as Robert Neville's daughter, Marley.

His act of vengeance devastates both younger and elder Spock, but the USS Enterprise and its crew succeed in stopping Nero before he continues his attack.

A fresh take on the classic, 1960s television series, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" is the eleventh film to bear that name. Its familiar characters are played by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Simon Pegg, and Anton Yelchin; Leonard Nimoy also appears.

They hear John Connor's message of hope sent by radio to survivors and resistance members, and set out to find him; however, Skynet captures Kyle. After learning the truth of his existence, Marcus defies his programming and helps to rescue both John Connor, mankind's future savior, and the boy who, owing to a twist in the timeline, would become John's father, Kyle.

The grim, gray look of McG's post-apocalypse "Terminator Salvation" was modeled after Technicolor's Oz process, in which the film negative is imbued with extra silver. The movie stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The final installment of George Lucas's saga, "Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith" brings the story back to the 1977 film that started it all, completing the circle. Reprising their roles from the preceding film are Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Ian McDiarmid, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) lives in a facility where his every need is catered to, but individuality is kept to a minimum and everyone is childlike. Exploring the facility, he learns the fate that awaits everyone there: they are an insurance policy for their wealthy owners, clones ready to be dissected for replacement parts. Lincoln escapes with his friend, Jordan Two Delta, and locates his owner, Tom Lincoln; Tom is surprised to learn that his clone is not in a vegetative state, as he was told, but does not care to help. Lincoln, assuming Tom's identity, and Jordan, ultimately succeed in ending the atrocity.

If the intense, heavily destructive action sequences didn't give it away, "The Island" was directed by Michael Bay. It stars Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, and Sean Bean.

10. You're visiting New York City with two of your friends to participate in an academic decathlon, just when Earth's new ice age decides to form. Thankfully, since your father is a climatologist, you have some idea of what to do. It's "The Day After Tomorrow" (2004). How do you survive the storm?

Answer: Stay in the library with a fire

Sam Hall (Jake Gyllenhaal) finds himself in the middle of the devastating storm that Jack, Sam's father and a paleoclimatologist, predicted would occur due to global warming. However, it's a few thousand years early. Weather patterns across the Northern Hemisphere become increasingly deadly, and Sam is unable to leave New York City. Failing to heed to the instructions Sam relays from his father, most of those trapped in New York's public library set out on foot, with fatal results. Using books to keep their fire going, Sam and those who remain at the library are among the few to survive. With so much of the Earth now turned to ice, survivors from the Northern continents have to look south for a new home.

Critiqued for its abundance of scientific inaccuracies, "The Day After Tomorrow" was directed by disaster-film specialist Roland Emmerich. It features Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Sela Ward, and Emmy Rossum.
