Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The rip on Mort's robe was on the left shoulder.

Answer: false

Johnny Depp came up with his own look and wardrobe for the movie with the help of the costume designer, Odette Gadoury. Johnny picked clothes he felt most comfortable wearing. He was immediately drawn to the robe that he wore for almost the entire movie.

The rip in the right shoulder appeared in between the time when Mort bought the cabin (Amy was wearing it in a flash back and it looked new) and the time the movie took place, a period of about 6 months. The robe meant something to Mort and that's why he always wore it, and that's how it got so mangled and worn.
2. What is the name of Mort's book that has "Secret Window" in it?

Answer: Everyone Drops the Dime

The book in the movie is called "Everyone Drops the Dime"; however the real book that "Secret Window, Secret Garden" is published in is called: "Four Past Midnight". Both books have a collection of short stories but "Four Past Midnight" only has 4 novellas, while "Everyone Drops the Dime" has 11 short stories. "The Langoliers", "The Library Policeman", and "The Sun Dog" are also included in the actual book.
3. On which page did "Secret Window" begin in Mort's book (not the magazine that it was first printed in)?

Answer: page 197

"Secret Window" was published on page 197 in Mort's book. It's the 8th short story listed in the table of contents. In the actual book, "Four Past Midnight", it's the second story in the book.
4. Why did they change the movie title from: "Secret Window, Secret Garden" to just "Secret Window"?

Answer: Because there was a popular movie called "Secret Garden".

In the special features of the movie, David Koepp, the writer and director of the movie, talks about how there is another book and movie called "Secret Garden" so the film writers didn't want the two films and books to get mixed up.
5. What was the name of the man in the story Mort was writing when the cleaning lady was cleaning his house?

Answer: George

The scene where Mort is writing about a guy named George is the only scene where we see Mort actually writing. This is the only writing scene because the writer aspect isn't an appealing element, like watching football, which people get really excited about

This scene was important because it showed he couldn't write. His writing was going in reverse. He deleted the paragraph because it was bad writing. Mort not being able to write was caused by him being alone and that solitude makes it hard to realte to humans, which was what his story was about.
6. What was the name of Mort's cleaning lady?

Answer: Mrs. Garvey

Joan Heney plays Mrs. Garvey. Mort first mention's her name when he's in the kitchen and spills Mountain Dew on the table. Mrs. Garvey comes into the kitchen to clean it up.
7. How many times did Mort say the cleaning lady's name?

Answer: 5

In the small amount of time that Mrs. Garvey was in the movie, Mort says her name 5 times. Mrs. Garvey is one of the few people that Mort had contact with, and he was clearly annoyed by her presence.
8. What was Amy doing when she got one of her feelings?

Answer: Making a sandwich

Amy was making sandwiches when she had one of her feelings concerning Mort. She was worried ,so she called him on the phone. She told him about her feeling and asked him if he was okay.
9. How many napkins came in the package that Mort bought at the end of the movie?

Answer: 100

At the end of the movie, Mort was buying Morton salt, Vanity Fair napkins, and First Quality butter for his corn. Seeing how he had an abundant amount of corn from his garden, he needed more supplies for it.
10. What was the name of the character in "Secret Garden"? (Not "Sowing Season" - the story written by John Shooter.)

Answer: Tommy Haverlock

Tommy Haverlock was the character in Mort's version of the story, while Todd Downy was the character in John Shooter's version. Mort however uses Shooter's ending at the end of the movie, because it was the 'real' ending and what really happened in the movie. He killed his wife and her lover and buried them in the garden.
