Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The narrator begins the story with a letter from a boy who has written to the Royal Academy of Science to enquire about the possibility of another world beyond the border of his own. Where does he call home?

Answer: Wall

"Stardust" is a fantasy film based on a 1998 book of the same name by Neil Gaiman. Wall seems like a typical English village from some time ago but a secret is hidden from most of the residents.
The stone wall which surrounds the village of Wall is actually separating two worlds and natural curiosity eventually leads to exploration of this.
2. The first person to cross the barrier is Dunstan Thorn, he doesn't really seem to believe there is anything beyond the wall but manages to evade the (rather old) guard and passes through. He ends up at a market and makes his way to a stall where an attractive woman sells him a flower in exchange for a kiss. Dunstan returns home and continues with his life, however, several months later a reminder of his time beyond the wall arrives at his doorstep. What is it?

Answer: A baby son

Baby Tristan is left at the wall and is then delivered to Dunstan who we can assume was probably quite surprised at the arrival.
The character's name in the book was actually Tristran but it was changed for the film.
3. Eighteen years pass by and Tristan becomes a man. And as most men will do at some point in their lives he falls in love. Who is the object of his affection?

Answer: Victoria

Victoria, while beautiful, is rather shallow and doesn't care much for Tristan except enjoying the special treatment she receives from him at the shop where he works.
After getting him fired from his job she accepts an invitation to a picnic with Tristan, whilst enjoying some champagne they witness a falling star in the distance. Tristan who is determined to prove his love volunteers to catch the star and bring it back for Victoria.
4. Tristan decides to head out in search of the star and enlists the help of his father. His father reveals that his mother left him a letter and a gift - a Babylon candle. Lighting it and wishing of a person takes you to them. When Tristan lights the candle his wishes get a little confused and he ends up where?

Answer: In a crater with the star

Tristan doesn't realise he has found the star as he wasn't expecting it to be a person. Initially he confuses her with his mother although she soon corrects him.
5. Yvaine has trouble with which of the following activities?

Answer: Travelling in the daytime

Stars only come out at night and Yvaine struggles to keep travelling in the day as she is exhausted.
6. Yvaine finally refuses to walk any further so Tristan chains her to a tree. She is released by a mythical animal. What releases her?

Answer: A unicorn

When Yvaine is chained to the tree a unicorn appears from the woods and breaks the chain holding her.
Yvaine rides the unicorn until she finds an inn which is unfortunately a magical trap created by Lamia, a witch. Tristan finds her here and the unicorn stops him from drinking poison which allows both of them to escape the inn.
7. When they escape the inn, Tristan and Yvaine find themselves on a cloud thanks to conflicting wishes of home when they lit the Babylon candle. They are rescued/captured by a flying pirate ship, the Captain of the ship has a name taken from a well known English playwright. Who is his namesake?

Answer: William Shakespeare

Although the Captain has a tendency to enjoy the finer things in life, including classical music, literature and even dressing in women's clothing; he hides this as it isn't the usual behaviour of a pirate ship Captain.
He chooses Shakespeare as his enemies fear him thinking that he shakes a spear however he chose it because of the legendary wordsmith.
8. The Captain and crew of the pirate ship attempt to sell some of their wares at a shop. What is it they are trading in?

Answer: Lightning

The scene at the shop is quite amusing, Ricky Gervais plays the shop owner who attempts to haggle with Captain Shakespeare, played by Robert De Niro, however the Captain sticks to his original price and in the end it is agreed to.
9. After they leave the pirate ship Yvaine and Tristan are travelling along the road when they seek shelter in a passing caravan. The owner of the caravan cannot see Yvaine (due to a previous meeting with the witch queen) and agrees to give safe passage to Tristan in exchange for the flower he received from his mother. Tristan agrees to the terms but the owner, Ditchwater Sal, turns him into an animal for the journey. What is he transformed into?

Answer: Mouse

While Tristan is in mouse form he pretends that he cannot understand Yvaine, taking advantage of this Yvaine confesses her feelings for Tristan.
When they arrive at Wall Market Tristan tells Yvaine that he heard her and that he feels the same way.
10. The ruling family of Stormhold had seven sons but only one daughter. What is her name?

Answer: Una

All of the siblings were named after numbers. The brothers were named from Latin Ordinal numbers from Primus to Septimus. Una is their only sister and the mother of Tristan. Due to the premature deaths of all of the brothers (unfortunately mostly due to fratricide) Tristan was the rightful heir and the film ends with him ruling Stormhold along with Yvaine.
