quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the movie, just after Jack runs into the Smithy where Will works, what is the first initial on the sign? (The last name was "Brown".)

Answer: J.

When Will comes into the smithy (when Jack was hiding there) he looks at the sleeping Mr. Brown and says "Right where I left you." Then he sees the hammer lying on the anvil and says "not where I left you."
In my opinion, he has a pretty good memory for that sort of thing.
2. Towards the end, when Sparrow and Barbossa are fighting, just after Barbossa finds out that Jack had taken one of the pieces of gold from the chest, what instrument does Barbossa mention?

Answer: Trumpet

"So, Jack, are we to be two immortals, locked in battle, until judgement day, and trumpets sound?". Jack answers "Or you could surrender." I love that line!
3. Which of these was NOT a woman who Jack Sparrow talked to?

Answer: Demetra

The first of those women was Scarlet, the second Giselle, and the third Anamaria, the female pirate. All of the women who he talked to, apart from Elizabeth, slapped him at least once.
4. Captain Jack Sparrow has a large braid in his hair. (Approximately one inch wide.)

Answer: True

A lot of people didn't notice this, but, along with dreadlocks, beads and small braids, Jack actually has a large braid at the back of his head.
5. What was Ragetti's fake eye made of?

Answer: Wood

When Pintel and Ragetti were looking at the treasure on the Isla de Muerta, they were discussing how they'd be rich men when the curse was lifted, and how Ragetti could buy himself a new eye, glass this time because the one that he had at the time splintered awfully.
6. Will broke something in the Commodore's household.

Answer: False

The reason the answer is "false" is that he actually broke something in the Governor's household, not the Commodore's. It was, of course, a candle stick. When he touched it, part of it came off, but he quickly put it in the umbrella stand before anyone noticed. A classic!
7. When Will tells Jack his real name, what does Jack say? "Thats short for William I imagine....good strong name. No doubt named for your _______, eh?"

Answer: father

We later find out that Will was the only child of Bootstrap Bill Turner, whose real name was William Turner. This is very important to the story.
8. How many times does Barbossa say the word "apple" (or "apples")?

Answer: 3

He says it to Elizabeth Swann all three of those times. Time one and two were when he and Elizabeth have dinner together on the Black Pearl. Number three was when he was about to repay her blood (not knowing that it was not her blood that he needed), and he said "You know the first thing I'm going to do after the curse is lifted? Eat a whole bushel of apples!"
9. Complete this quote: "Take what you can!" "Give _____ back!"

Answer: nothing

This was said by Captain Jack Sparrow and Mr. Gibbs while they were in Tortuga. It was Mr. Gibbs' and Jack's special toast, right after Jack tells Mr. Gibbs about Will, the only child of Bootstrap Bill Turner (Jack's new "leverage").
10. Where does Jack's compass point when he holds it?

Answer: the Isla de Muerta

In the beginning of the movie, when Commodore Norrington was examining Jack's "effects", he found a pistol with only one shot, a compass that didn't point north, and a sword that he "half expected to be made of wood". Then he calls Jack the "worst pirate he has ever heard of", to which Jack replies "ah, but you have heard of me!" A classic!
11. Do we ever see Will with his hair down (as in, not in a pony tail)?

Answer: Yes

We see him with his hair down when Barbossa is about to kill him and so repay his father's blood that runs in his veins. From that scene on, he always has his hair down.
12. In the scene after the credits, who takes another piece of Aztec gold out of the chest?

Answer: Jack (the monkey)

Not many people have the patience to stay after the credits, as they are longer than those of "Harry Potter". But I assure you, it is well worth it! We see a green apple bobbing in the water, then we see Barbossa lying dead beside the chest. Then we see the monkey coming up to the chest and taking a piece out. Now the monkey becomes cursed and goes all skeletal and leaps at the screen. Very cool.
13. In the beginning of the movie, right after we first see Jack Sparrow, we see great bales of wool being loaded onto ships. There was also one animal being loaded onto the ships. What was it?

Answer: goat

It was at the same dock where Jack Sparrow "tied up his ship", even though the ship was about 4/5 of the way under water.
14. Were there any horses at Captain Norrington's ceremony of becoming Commodore?

Answer: Yes

There were six horses, three at the top left of the screen, three at the top right. They are only seen in one shot, so not many people noticed them.
15. In Tortuga, when Will and Jack Sparrow are examining the "able-bodied crew" provided by Mr. Gibbs, what fruit was Jack holding?

Answer: A banana

It seems a bit peculiar that he wasn't holding a green apple, because, for some reason, green apples appear a lot in the movie.
