This is said by the narrator at the beginning of the movie. He is explaining who the Skeksis and Mystics are and how they came to be and why things are the way they are. It also sets the tone for the rest of the movie.

"The Skekses killed his family, destroyed his clan. Only Jen survived to be raised by the wisest of the Mystics."

This is explained by the narrator and Jen is the main character in the movie. He was a baby when his family was killed. Later in the movie, the Skeksis explain that the gelfling will destroy them unless he dies. It is not explained as to how his family was killed or why Jen survived.

He says, "I am still emperor!" He then takes his final breath and falls onto the pillow and begins to crumble and turn to dust. Not all of the Skeksis die this way; it depends on how their mystic counterpart dies. For example, if a Mystic disappears, so will the Skeksis counterpart. You find out at the end of the movie that the Mystics and the Skeksis are one and the same.

Jen knows he needs to fulfill his destiny but is afraid because he's never been beyond the Mystic village. Jen has never known the outside world and that is why it scares him. He does end up going alone to find the crystal shard in order to heal the dark crystal. It is his destiny to heal the crystal.

"A gelfling alive." "The prophecy says gelfling will destroy us."

The Skeksis thought they had killed all the gelflings many years before. They know that Jen can heal the crystal and therefore destroy them and rid the world of evil. Jen is an elf-like creature, and he is the hero of the movie.

He has narrowed it down to three choices but isn't sure which one of the three is the right one. Then he hears two of the Mystics humming specific notes. He then plays those notes on his pipe and the correct shard begins to glow. Jen needs to find the shard in order to heal the crystal. It isn't explained as to how Jen got the pipe and why it is special to him.

"Not bad at all" according to the Skeksis who caught the runaway crawlie. The main course was roast nebry. They sit in a semi-circle around the new emperor. Crawlies look like spiders and are a dessert.

The Garthim reveal her instead of the gelfling and she's very upset because her home is gone. The Garthim burn her home while they are trying to get Jen. The Skeksis don't really say much about Aughra cursing them because they don't think Jen will be able to heal the crystal before the three suns meet. Aughra is the keeper of the stars and knows that Jen will be able to do it in time.

"It wasn't your fault, the Garthim have always come."

He didn't know that the Garthim come to capture the podlings so the Skeksis can have "slaves". He then throws the shard away wishing he had never heard of it. Jen blames himself because the Garthim also attack Aughra's home looking for him. The shard is needed to heal the crystal, but Jen throws it away because he feels that it has caused him nothing but problems.

"You Kira call the animals. You have the gift. Call them to freedom. LOUD"

Aughra says this when Kira is having her essence drained. Jen also yells out to Kira and she frees all the animals. They free her and begin attacking the scientist. The female gelflings have abilities that the males don't have, such as the gift to call the animals. When she calls the animals to freedom, it sounds like a hunting cry of some sort.
