'A Clockwork Orange' is based on the novel by Anthony Burgess and the screen play by director Stanley Kubrick. Malcolm McDowell stars as Alexander de Large, the protagonist and antagonist all rolled into one.

In the film, Alexander de Large is a member of the youth gangs mentioned previously. After committing murder, he is subjected to a rigorous corrective method that involves mental conditioning, with naturally disastrous results.

'Minority Report' is the story of a police detective (Tom Cruise) who happily goes about his business of arresting people before they commit crimes (aka 'pre-crime'), that is, until his number comes up. Steven Spielberg directs this thriller, based on a story by Philip K. Dick.

Terry Gilliam directs and Jonathan Pryce stars as Sam Lowry, a technocrat who is involved in getting the wrong man arrested for a terrorist incident. When Lowry attempts to rectify the situation, he is also accused of being a terrorist and is forced to run. Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown co-wrote the screenplay with Gilliam in this magnificent vision of a frightening future.

'Starship Troopers' is a peek into a fascistic future created by Robert Heinlein in his original novel, and brought to the screen by director Paul Verhoeven. Violently satiristic of modern society, the film is meant to poke fun at jingoistic politics, and only suffers a bit because of its candy-coated cast.

The 2002 version of 'Solaris' features George Clooney as a psychologist who is sent deep into space to investigate a situation on a research ship where the crew are experiencing strange mental phenomena. It is based on the original Russian film from 1972. While the 2002 version is directed by Steven Soderbergh, Andrei Tarkovsky directs the original (based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem).

'RoboCop' is another classic futuristic sci-fi film directed by Paul Verhoeven. In this film, officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is nearly killed by a street gang, but is revived and turned into a cyborg by experts affiliated with the city government. His quest then becomes to arrest the assailant responsible for previously attacking him.

Answer: Artificial Intelligence: AI

Haley Joel Osment stars as David, an android boy who has joined a family in replacement of a comatose son. When the human boy he has replaced is revived, David becomes expendible and his survival becomes a big issue. Steven Spielberg directed this film with a fascinating premise that originally was to be directed by Stanley Kubrick.
