Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Soon after Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan land on the Trade Federation control ship, things quickly go wrong for them. What is the first sign that lets them know they are in danger?

Answer: Their ship is destroyed.

While all of these are true, the Jedi immediately prepare their lightsabers for combat upon sensing their ship's destruction, after which the room fills with gas and they prepare to deal with approaching droids. Only after escaping do they notice the invasion force getting ready to launch.
2. In Otoh Gunga, the Jedi and Jar Jar Binks are brought before the Gungan Council. Seeing that negotiation is ineffective, Qui-Gon uses a mind trick on Boss Nass. What is the first thing he convinces Nass into?

Answer: Allowing them to leave the city

In this scene, Qui-Gon uses three separate mind tricks in succession - first asking to be allowed to leave and then for transportation. In spite of Obi-Wan's protests, Jar Jar then convinces him to further trick Boss Nass into allowing him to depart with them.
3. While escaping the blockade, the royal starship's shields are damaged and four astromech droids are sent to repair it. All but one are destroyed. This droid of course is identified as R2-D2. What does the queen order her handmaiden to do to show their gratitude?

Answer: Clean his dirtied body

After being rescued by the droid, the queen asks for the designation which Captain Panaka reads off. She then orders her haindmaiden Padme to wipe off the dirt accumulated on him. After this, R2-D2 would journey with the party.
4. Making an emergency landing on Tatooine, the party is forced to stay there before heading to Coruscant. Why is this?

Answer: A vital ship part has been damaged

Specifically, the damaged part is identified as a T-14 hyperdrive generator, a component which allows the ship to achieve faster-than-light speed. It is apparent that such a part is quite rare, and at that, very expensive.
5. After winning the pod race, Anakin is freed and taken to become a Jedi. However, his mother must stay behind because she is not freed. But what stops her from coming along anyway?

Answer: All slaves have a chip that will explode if they try to escape.

During a dinner scene, Anakin briefly explains with a slightly disturbing sense of amusement how any slaves who try to escape are blown up if they attempt to escape. Interestingly, the chips are never removed, only deactivated, so Anakin would have this in him likely until it was removed later or simply for the rest of his life.
6. Upon landing on Coruscant, our protagonists meet Supreme Chancellor Valorum. To deal with the invasion of Naboo, a session of Senate is called. However, during this session, he is removed from office. Why?

Answer: Queen Amidala calls for a vote of no confidence.

At the suggestion of Senator Palpatine, the queen is convinced to call for a vote of no confidence in Valorum's leadership due to the Senate's slowness in assisting their plagued planet. As a result, Palpatine is later elected chancellor and handles the crisis.
7. In spite of his high potential, the Jedi Council does not accept Anakin for training. Mace Windu cites what reason for this?

Answer: He is too old.

Although more than one of these choices are true, Mace Windu cites only Anakin's age as the reason. Most Jedi are taken in as toddlers, while Anakin began his training at the age of nine.
8. Upon returning to Naboo, the city of Otoh Gunga is found in ruins thanks to the Trade Federation. According to Jar Jar, in times of crisis, the Gungans retreat to an area called what name?

Answer: The Sacred Place

After Jar Jar returns to the surface, he finds his home city ravaged by the battle droids. He mentions the Sacred Place as an area the Gungans retreat to while in trouble. How the Trade Federation was able to destroy an underwater city with only battle droids is another question.
9. During the Battle of Naboo, the ships in space lead an attack to destroy the droid control ship. Ric Olie, captain of the Naboo, points out what obvious reason that they cannot succeed easily?

Answer: The control ship's deflector shields are too strong.

Ric Olie is popular among fans of the series as a character made fun of for stating obvious facts that really do not need clarification; such examples include pointing out the blockade right in front of them, noting that Coruscant is a city despite being in it, and the aforementioned notice of the deflector shield. This has earned him the nickname of "Captain Obvious".
10. During the lightsaber duel against Darth Maul, Obi-Wan watches helplessly as Qui-Gon is slain and his body disappears. He then goes on to defeat Maul by slicing him in half. What is untrue about this summary?

Answer: Qui-Gon's body does not disappear.

Unlike the Jedi who are seen perishing in the original trilogy, Qui-Gon's body does not disappear upon his death. He is later shown in a funeral pyre on Naboo.
