Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Friday the 13th (1980)

Answer: Pamela Voorhees

This is one of the earliest slasher films. It kept me awake on my camping trips.

Jason's mother, Pamela was the killer in the first film. Jason was the primary killer in most of the sequels. The part of Jason has been played by ten different actors in this film series.

The basic story is the same in most early slasher films; a group of teens come across an insane killer who knocks them off one by one. There always has to be a survivor or two at the end.
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Answer: Freddy Krueger

This early horror film got very good reviews from critics. The first nine "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies have made over $457 Million. The franchise also includes books and a TV spin off which only lasted two seasons.

Freddy, played by Robert Englund, is the insane killer who attacks teens in their dreams and kills them one by one.
3. The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Answer: The Wicked Witch of the West

This was the first scary movie I ever saw. At that time it was the most expensive movie MGM ever made, costing over $2,750,000. When the movie was made, technicolor was still new and a very expensive procedure.

I don't want to give away the story if there is anyone on Earth who hasn't seen it.
4. Halloween (1978)

Answer: Michael Myers

"Halloween" was made in 1978. There have been several movies in the series. Some villains just don't know how to die.

Story: An insane killer is murdering teenagers one by one. Sound familiar?
One of his prey, Laurie Strode, is not a teenager anymore and can put up a fight.
5. Psycho (1960)

Answer: Norman Bates

This film is Alfred Hitchcock at his best. He was nominated for the Academy Award as Best Director for this film. By today's standards it is still a scary movie.

Norman Bates runs a motel where murder is not uncommon. His mother seems to be a key character of the story. If you haven't seen this classic I won't say anymore.
6. Hellraiser (1987)

Answer: Pinhead

A lot of special effects makes this fantasy story an exceptional horror film. There are numerous movies in the series.

A puzzle box opens the dimension between Earth and the Cenobites, extra-dimensional beings who experiment in torture and pain.
7. It Follows (2014)

Answer: Undefined Entity

"It Follows" was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. It received good reviews by critics. The movie cost $2 million to make and brought in over $20 million its first year.

A curse is passed on to individuals after having a sexual encounter. A slow moving supernatural being follows the victims to murder them, but they can fight back.
8. It (2017)

Answer: Pennywise the Clown (or something more?)

The story was written in 1986 by horror master Stephen King. It was made into a TV movie in 1990, and then released to the big screen in 2017. It made over $478 million in the first couple months after release.

Seven kids take on a creature that emerges every 27 years and attacks the children of their small town. The creature takes on the form of a clown named Pennywise. The kids must face their fear of the creature, and their own inner fears.
9. Nosferatu (1922)

Answer: Count Orlok

"Nosferatu" was an unauthorized firm adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" written in 1897. It is a silent movie that was made in Germany. Stoker's heirs sued the film makers and the court ordered the film be destroyed. Luckily a few copies survived. Film makers changed Count Dracula to Count Orlok.

"Nosferatu" is about a vampire who moves to a town in Germany where he plagues the citizens. Ellen, the heroine and victim, defeats the creature by keeping him occupied until the sun rises.
10. The Omen (1976)

Answer: Damien

"The Omen" was a popular horror movie and earned two Academy Award nominations.

It was the fifth highest grossing movie of 1976. There was a remake of this story in 2006.

In the hospital a child is substituted at birth to an American diplomat. Satanists were behind the plot of the substitution and a plan to bring the child, Damien, to power.
