The partners are undercover at a party when we learn about their false identities. FDR, played by Chris Pine, tells a woman at the party that he is a cruise ship captain and introduces Tuck as a travel agent. She asks FDR for 'permission to come aboard', which might (or might not) be a wink and nod to the fact that Chris Pine also played Captain James T. Kirk in some 'Star Trek' films.

Lauren had followed her former boyfriend, Steve, from Georgia to Los Angeles only to discover he cheated on her. She dumped Steve and buried herself in her work. Unbeknownst to Lauren her best friend, Trish (Chelsea Handler), created a profile for Lauren on an online dating site to try to kick-start Lauren's love life again.

Tuck finds Lauren on Fate.net and invites her out to The Blarney Stone, which happens to be a real bar located in downtown Vancouver (one of the filming locations). Tuck claims he chose it because he likes the jukebox. FDR wants to come along on the date just in case Lauren is crazy, but Tuck convinces him to wait in a video store around the corner.

After her date with Tuck, Lauren stops by the video store where FDR was waiting. Not realizing Lauren was Tuck's date, FDR tries to pick her up. At first Lauren wants nothing to do with the self-absorbed playboy, but eventually relents and agrees to go out with him.

Once Tuck and FDR discover they're dating the same woman, the competition is on. They both use CIA agents and assets to learn all they can about Lauren. They plant cameras and bugs, run background checks, search her home, etc. FDR is watching Lauren and Tuck via hidden camera and ruins the date by setting off the sprinklers.

When Tuck calls him on it later, FDR claims he was worried about the fire hazard posed by the candles.

Tuck gets him right in the neck and FDR just has time to pull the dart out before passing out. Lauren returns from the bathroom to find FDR unconscious and snoring on the couch. Tuck has ruined FDR's date and gotten revenge for the sprinkler incident.

FDR learns that Lauren is an animal lover and takes her to an animal shelter. He lies and tells Lauren he volunteers there, and even takes one of the dogs out of its cage. While Lauren is distracted by another dog, FDR is attacked by the one he's holding. Before they leave, FDR adopts the oldest dog they have.

FDR has a drone flying behind the Camaro. Tuck stealthily shoots the drone and it explodes. When Lauren asks what the noise was, Tuck brushes it off as just the exhaust.

When the competition for Lauren got fierce it looked like the bromance was a goner. FDR had requested a transfer and had packed up his desk. It took Heinrich kidnapping Lauren and Trish to bring the guys back together. It was just before the kidnapping that Lauren found out Tuck and FDR knew each other.

She was ready to wash her hands of both of them, but the guys rescuing her caused a change of heart.

Not only did Lauren choose FDR, but she also accepted his marriage proposal. When FDR told Tuck about the engagement, Tuck agreed to be FDR's best man. Tuck wasn't left out in the cold though, he was well on his way to a reconciliation with his ex-wife.
