quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song is played during the opening credits of the film?

Answer: Fly Me To The Moon

The music is an excellent addition to the opening scenes of a typical hustle and bustle commute to New York City and Wall Street.
2. What year does the film take place?

Answer: 1985

1985 is flashed on the screen during an early scene where the camera is panning across the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
3. What airline does Bud's father work at?

Answer: Bluestar

Bud unfortunately ends up using his dad's inside information about the airline for his own personal gain.
4. What does Bud bring as a gift to his first meeting with Gordon Gekko?

Answer: cigars

Gordon asks Bud where he got them and Bud says he has a connection at the airport. Gekko is shown smoking one of the "Cubans" when he later makes a purchase of shares through Bud on the phone.
5. Gekko quote, "The most valuable commodity I know of is ___________."

Answer: information

And Gekko doesn't care where or how you get it!
6. Gekko quotes a line to Bud from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." "Every battle is won before it is ever ________."

Answer: fought

Later in the movie Bud, who has obviously taken hints from Gordon about the book, starts quoting lines back to Gekko like "All warfare is based on deception." "The Art of War" is fascinating if you are interested in reading about the importance of strategy and orgainization in war as well as in the workplace.
7. Complete the quote, "____________ loves Anacott Steel."

Answer: Blue Horseshoe

Bud's secret message to the Wall Street Chronicle.
8. Gekko's quote to stockholders, "Greed, for the lack of a better word is ______."

Answer: good

Probably the most famous line from the film.
9. Gekko's "greed" speech is spoken to what company's board of trustees and stockholders?

Answer: Teldar Paper

Gekko's speech holds his audience attentively and he receives a standing ovation from nearly all the stockholders present. I kind of like the humorous lines about how much money Teldar is wasting in paying so many Vice-Presidents to basically sit around. The funny thing is many real-world big businesses actually have that many.
10. Which person won an Academy Award for his work with the film?

Answer: Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas plays Gordon Gekko in his Oscar-winning role.
