"Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit" Quiz

"Wallace and Gromit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit" is the first full-length claymation endeavour of the Aardman company, and as well as being artistic genius, it's pretty darn funny, too. These ten questions cover the first third of the film. Enjoy.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene, we see several photographs on Wallace's wall that show his and Gromit's relationship throughout the years. Which of the following photographs is not seen in this montage?

Answer: Wallace playing with Gromit as a puppy. In this photo, Wallace has an impressive head of hair.

The photos in the opening scene move from the right to the left. The first scene is Gromit's first birthday, then Gromit's graduation, and third, Wallace and Gromit together as they are today. In the photos that follow, we see Wallace getting distracted by cheese, Gromit catching him admiring said cheese, Wallace trying to eat the cheese whole, and the two giving each other the cold shoulder, until they finally come together again for the final image.
2. The first time we see Wallace and Gromit's company in action, Anti-Pesto are attending a crime scene. It seems that Mrs. Mulch's potentially prize pumpkin (say that three times fast) is being robbed by a rabbit! Wallace and Gromit soon dispatch of the burglar bunny, but what does the bunny leave the garden in possession of?

Answer: Mrs. Mulch's false teeth

Reg, Mrs. Mulch's husband, accidentally loses her false teeth when the captured rabbit takes a swing at the couple, even though his neck is firmly gripped in a pair of metal pliers. As we find out, Mrs. Mulch isn't the only member of the neighbourhood who is growing something for the Vegetable Competition at Tottington Hall.

Many of the other neighbours are growing marrows, aubergines, and cabbages with the intention of entering them.
3. Of course, such a large business venture requires a lot of experimental technology. In the dining room, Wallace and Gromit have pictures off all of their clients in the town. When a client has a pest, part of their picture lights up and the two are catapulted down into their van. What part of the client's image lights up, though?

Answer: eye

As the eyeball lights flash, both Wallace and Gromit are woken (Wallace by a block of cheese), and they are thrown downwards into their overalls, have a cup of tea and then they end up in the van. The number plate here reads "HOP 2 IT", a clear reference to their line of work; getting rid of rabbit infestations.

Most people in the town have sensors in their back gardens to alert Anti-Pesto to any bunnies that end up in the gardens. When a sensor beam is broken by a pest, it is then that the eyeballs light up.
4. Lady Tottington doesn't take long to appear in this film. Voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter, this hapless lady of the manor calls on Anti-Pesto to rid her of her infestation. Her supposed fiancé would rather exterminate the bunnies. The dastardly Victor Quartermaine is soon provided with another reason to hate the people of Anti-Pesto. Why does the loathsome lord hate Wallace and Gromit so much?

Answer: They vacuumed up his hairpiece with the BunVac6000, then vacuumed HIM up with the BunVac6000.

Of course, Victor Quartermaine is soon given more reasons to hate Wallace and Gromit, such as their ability to catch rabbits in a way that his fiancée approves of. He is soon of the opinion that Wallace is a small minded buffoon. His dog, Phillip, is seen with Victor throughout the scenes with Lady Tottington (or his "filly", as he calls her), and as we later see, it isn't only Victor and Wallace who have a rivalry.
5. When Wallace takes the bunnies to supposedly 'dispose' of them, he decides to put them in the basement hutches along with the rest of the captured rabbits. Of course, earlier on in the film, some of the rabbits escape from the hutch and make it to the kitchen. What do they do to poor unsuspecting Gromit?

Answer: They hide in the fridge door, then hit him on the head with a wooden spoon.

The rabbits here are looking for more food, as all they get is carrot pieces, which Gromit prepares. As he enters the kitchen after the bunny breakout, Gromit heads straight to the refrigerator and looks inside. As he peers in, we can see the rabbits waiting in the door of the fridge with a wooden spoon, which they brandish as a weapon.
6. As Lady Tottington states, you "can't change their bunny natures!" Naturally, Wallace takes it upon himself to try and do this. Which one of his many inventions does he choose to turn the captured bunnies off vegetables?

Answer: The Mind-Manipulator-O-Matic

This goes horribly wrong as one of the rabbits, which is later named Hutch, gets sucked into the machine and attached to Wallace's head. Because Hutch now avoid carrots and cabbages, Wallace believes that the procedure has been a complete success, but we find out otherwise later in the film...
7. The whole town is hoping to win the Giant Vegetable Competition at Tottington Hall, and Gromit is no exception. He is growing a giant marrow in the greenhouse, and every night, he covers the vegetable with a blanket and plays music. What is the name of the marrow's farcical piece of choice?

Answer: "The Plant Suite"

"The Plant Suite", a clear parody of "The Planets Suite", by Holst, is played to the marrow at night, and the record sleeve depicts Jupiter as a turnip. Gromit then kisses the marrow goodnight and locks the greenhouse door. As he does this, we see the rest of the neighbours kissing their giant vegetables and setting their rabbit traps for the evening.
8. As the Vicar leaves his greenhouse (after blessing his aubergines with holy water), he is the first victim of what he calls "The Were-Rabbit". At first, he believes the "Were-Rabbit" to be Mrs. Mulch, and then a hungry vagrant. When he finds out it is something other-worldly, he tries to protect himself, but how?

Answer: By using two cucumbers from the vestry, held in the shape of a crucifix.

Stood in the rear of the church near the font, the vicar has just got back the church after blessing his aubergines. He believes the were-rabbit to be Mrs Mulch, when he hears an unsavoury belch from the pews. Offering the vegetables to the creature, the Vicar has his leg broken and there is a large, were-rabbit shaped hole in the stained glass pane above the church doors.
9. After the Vicar's meeting with the now named Were-Rabbit, alerts sound for all homes in the area, and a church meeting is called. There are suggestions that the damage inflicted by the Were-Rabbit was caused by mere slugs (as it was in the 1932 epidemic), but both the Vicar and Victor Quartermaine say that this is the work of a giant rabbit. While the organ player is going "mental" (as the police officer says) in the background, Anti-Pesto agree to try and capture the creature. "Hoorah, there's hope for the vegetables yet!", cries Lady Tottington. What is Victor's response?

Answer: "Not the ones I'm looking at", referring to Wallace and Gromit, and the rest of the town.

While Wallace and Gromit try to think of a humane way of removing the creature, Victor Quartermaine attempts to kill the monster using his shotgun. It is around this time that we start to notice a change in Hutch, the rabbit that was involved in the horrible "Mind-Manipulator-O-Matic" incident.
10. In their desire to find and capture the elusive Were-Rabbit, Wallace and Gromit have tied a large faux-bunny to the top of their van and are driving through the streets. On Wallace's request, Gromit tries to make the giant rabbit more alluring. Which of these does Gromit NOT do in order to make the huge hare more appealing?

Answer: He flares the skirt of the rabbit, á la Marylin Monroe in "Seven Year Itch".

Wallace loses the large fur-covered monstrosity from the top of his van when they try to go through a tunnel. We leave the hapless heroes as Wallace tries to re-attach the rabbit and Gromit gets the feeling that something is not right...

Stay tuned for the next installment of "Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit!" Thanks for playing, folks. Drive safely now.
