Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1989 Pierce Brosnan played Phileas Fogg in the mini-series based on Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days". Phileas is the quintessential olden-day stodgy English guy, but one day he makes a bet that he can travel around the world in only eighty days and hilarity ensues. Which Monty Python member plays his faithful sidekick Passepartout?

Answer: Eric Idle

At one point Eric Idle kisses Pierce Brosnan! Kinky, but true. No it was all good clean fun and adventure as Pierce and Eric cope with the joys of travel.
2. Pierce Brosnan starred as the conservationist Grey Owl in a movie imaginatively titled "Grey Owl". What animal was Grey Owl passionate about protecting?

Answer: The beaver

Grey Owl was probably one of the first environmentalists. He was an Native Indian conservationist from Canada who wrote books and gave lectures all over the world. At the time (1920's) he was very influental. The ironic part was that 'Grey Owl' the Indian was not an Indian at all, but a guy from London who had always wanted to be an Indian.

As soon as he could he left home, travelled to Canada and spent years living with the Indians until he became an adopted part of the tribe. The sad part was that when the truth about 'Grey Owl' came out everyone got carried away by the sensationalism of his lie and forgot about his environmental message.
3. In the remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair" Pierce Brosnan plays Thomas Crown. Thomas is a bored rich millionaire who needs something to do - so in the beginning of the film he steals a painting from an art museum. Who painted the picture he stole at the beginning of the film?

Answer: Monet

The painting has many names but is sometimes called 'Twilight at San Giorgio'. It was painted by Monet in Venice around 1894 and is worth more than one hundred million dollars (that is more than you will earn in your lifetime - unless you are Bill Gates or Pierce Brosnan!). Rene Russo plays a sassy insurance investigator who wants to get it back and put Thomas in jail, however Thomas and Rene fall in love, escape to a non-extradictable country and live happily ever after.
4. In his movies Pierce spends a lot of his time being heroic and good looking, however occasionally he gets to play the bad guy. In which of these films does he play an absolute cad, bounder and rotter with designs of kidnapping, murder and general nastiness?

Answer: Don't Talk to Strangers

"Don't Talk to Strangers" looks like it probably went straight to video (all it needed was Brian Dennehey and bing bam boom - midday movie). However the interesting thing about the film was that Mr-all round-good-guy-Pierce-Brosnan played an evil, money grubbing, kid-stealing, not very nice chap who gets his comeuppance at the end of the film.

In "Taffin" Pierce plays an Irish debt collector who takes on a corrupt local council. In "Murder 101" Pierce plays a university professor who gets framed for murder.
5. Who was the character Pierce played in the mini-series "Noble House"?

Answer: Ian Dunross

With a liberal dosing of talculm powder in his hair and his hand firmly planted in his pocket, Pierce played the lead character of Ian Dunross in James Clavell's "Noble House". Ian Dunross was the taipan (chief executive) of the biggest and most powerful company in Hong Kong (which is traditionally called the 'Noble House'). During the course of the mini-series he had to cope with natural disasters, fires, completely implausable occurences, overly dramatic music swelling at the slightest opportunity, truly bad acting from the supporting cast, unnecessary close-ups and the fickle ups and downs of the stockmarket - and the mini-series time frame only spans one week! A truly stunning mini-series and the epitomy of the eighties mini-series genre.
6. What is it with actors? Not content with merely acting they always want to take over all the important behind the scenes roles such as directing and producing. This can be dangerous thing - anyone remember Kevin Costner's "Water World"? And now Pierce has got into the act. What is the name of Pierce Brosnan's production company?

Answer: Irish Dreamtime

Pierce Brosnan and his good mate Beau St. Clair started the production company Irish Dreamtime. In between drinking a lot of Guinness they made "The Nephew" and "Evelyn". Both films (strangely enough) are set in Ireland and they are two nice little plot driven dramas - lots of quirky Irish character actors, no shaken-but-not-stirred martinis and Pierce Brosnan even sings in "Evelyn".
7. Captain Picard of "Star Trek" meets James Bond 007. Patrick Stewart and Pierce Brosnan both starred in a movie that involved terrorists, nuclear weapons, and a method of transportation. What was the name of this movie?

Answer: Deathtrain

While "Deathdunebuggy" is intriging and I would personally love to see a movie with this name, it is not the right answer and we are stuck with the bad action thriller called "Deathtrain".
"Deathtrain" involves Pierce Brosnan trying to get the better of some wacked out terrorists and their nuclear bomb by getting on their 'train of death'.
8. Pierce was only in his mid twenties when he gained an instant family with two kids when he married his first wife. What was her name?

Answer: Cassandra Harris

Cassandra Harris was Pierce Brosnan's first wife. She was Australian - Yay!, loved the sea (being an Australian - Yay!) and had two children from a previous marriage. Together Pierce and Cassandra had another child called Sean. Sadly, Cassandra died of cancer in 1991. Pierce eventually remarried a journalist called Keely and has had another two boys called Dylan and Paris (poor kids... I forsee years of therapy to get over those names). No offence meant to any person called Dylan or Paris, Mr Brosnan or his lovely wife.
9. Robin Williams was his usual zany self in the smash hit cross dressing comedy "Mrs Doubtfire". Pierce Brosnan was also in "Mrs Doubtfire" and he played a tall good looking Englishman (what a stretch). In this movie Pierce Brosnan was hit in the head by a lime: True or false? Remember I could be leading you up the garden path (perhaps it was a grapefruit?), or it might be true - you decide?

Answer: True

Pierce's character, 'Stu' was the tragic victim of a 'run by fruiting' as Mrs Doubtfire called it. Actually it was Robin Williams lobbing Pierce in the head with a lime when he wasn't looking. Revenge for short hairy funny men over tall good looking sex symbols everywhere. And for the record Pierce is actually Irish.
10. Pierce Brosnan has worked with many wonderful actors over the years. Out of this lot which actor hasn't he worked with... Judy Dench, Michael Caine, Danny De Vito, Sally Field, Kenneth Brannagh, Warren Beatty, Rene Russo, Jamie-Lee Curtis, Barbara Streisand, Alan Bates.

Answer: Kenneth Brannagh

Pierce has been the sleazy Alex in Babs' "The Mirror Has Two Faces", the minor love interest in Warren Beatty's "Love Story", juggled art and romance with Rene in "The Thomas Crown Affair", been called a 'misogynist dinosour' by Judi Dench as his James Bond boss 'M', but has never worked with Kenneth-Hamlet/Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter-Brannagh. Danny De Vito was in "Mars Attacks", Sally Fields chose him over Robin Williams in "Mrs Doubtfire", Jamie-Lee was lusted after by him in "The Tailor of Panama", Michaine Caine shot him in "The Fourth Protocol" and Alan Bates helped him get his kids back in "Evelyn".
