Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which country is the target of the bombing raid featured in the film "633 Squadron"?

Answer: Norway

Starring Cliff Robertson, George Chakiris, Harry Andrews and Donald Houston, "633 Squadron" tells the story of an RAF squadron, equipped with the iconic and ultra-manoeuvrable wooden Mosquito, tasked to bomb a rocket fuel factory in an almost impregnable fjord in Nazi-occupied Norway.
2. What word is missing from this 1970 film title, "Two ________ for Sister Sara"?

Answer: Mules

Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine starred in this film, set in Mexico in the 1860s, when French troops were being fought by revolutionaries. Eastwood's character saves MacLaine's character, a nun, from being gang-raped by bandits at the start of the film, and then reluctantly helps her and a gang of rebels fight the French.

It is only towards the end of the film he discovers she is not a nun, but a prostitute in disguise!
3. In the 2010 dark comedy "Four Lions", what major event did the jihadi terrorists decide to attack with their suicide bombs?

Answer: The London Marathon

"Four Lions", despite its dark subject, is sharply funny as it follows five hopelessly inept, would-be terrorists who have decided to target the London Marathon, with their bombs hidden underneath crazy costumes so that they blend in with the other fun runners.
The film truly deserves its description "Terrorism may be about ideology but it can also be about idiots!"
4. In the 1974 film "The Taking of Pelham 123", what finally gives away the last surviving hijacker, Mr Green, to the police?

Answer: A sneeze

In this great film about the hijacking of a New York subway train, Walter Matthau, as Garber, the NYCTA police lieutenant, has overheard the leading hijacker, Mr Green (Martin Balsam) sneezing over the radio during hostage negotations. In the last frames of the film, Garber appears to be accepting Mr Green's alibi, and has just closed his apartment door to leave, when he hears a sneeze from inside.

The film ends with the word "Gesundheit".
5. Fill in the missing number in the tile of the film "___ Hours", which is based on the experiences of Aron Ralston as described by him in his book "Between a Rock and a Hard Place."

Answer: 127

With a screenplay adapted from his own book "Between a Rock and a Hard Place", "127 Hours" shows Aron canyoning alone in Blue John Canyon in Utah. He was trapped by a boulder for just over five days - the 127 hours of the title, running out of water and being forced to drink his own urine, before eventually using a multi-tool to amputate his own forearm in order to escape.
6. What items are outlawed by the government and have to be burned on sight in the 1966 film "Fahrenheit 451"?

Answer: Books

Based on Ray Bradbury's 1951 novel of the same name, in which books have been banned because the government is scared of the public being able to think, independently, "Fahrenheit 451" gets its name from the temperature at which Bradbury believed book-paper would auto-ignite. More recent experiments indicate that it is probably at least 30 degrees higher.
7. With a host of stars, including John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Christopher Lee, Warren Oates, Robert Stack and John Candy, who directed the 1979 comedy film "1941"?

Answer: Steven Spielberg

A farcical comedy telling how a panicking California prepared for a Japanese invasion just after Pearl Harbour, and loosely based around the real events of The Great Los Angeles Air Raid in February 1942, this was not one of Spielberg's biggest successes, and not very well received when first released The film later went on to achieve a level of cult status.

It was nominated for three Oscars in 1980, for Cinematography, Sound and Visual Effects, losing out to "Apocalypse Now" for the first two, and "Alien" for the third. Spielberg is better known for much higher-earning films such as "Jaws", "E.T.", "Jurassic Park", "Saving Private Ryan" and the "Indiana Jones" films.
8. In the 1960 film "The Magnificent Seven" and its sequel in 1966, "The Return of the [Magnificent] Seven", the lead role of Chris Adams was played by Yul Brynner. Who played Chris Adams in the second sequel in 1969, "Guns of the Magnificent Seven"?

Answer: George Kennedy

James Coburn played Britt in the original film, Robert Fuller played Vin (Steve McQueen's role in the original) in the first sequel, and Lee Van Cleef played Chris Adams in the third sequel in 1972, "The Magnificent Seven Ride".
George Kennedy's finest role was as Dragline in "Cool Hand Luke", for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, but he is probably best known for his parts in the "Airport" and "Naked Gun" series.
9. The 2009 film "District 9" deals with the government's attempt to evict a group of aliens, known as prawns, from a squalid slum. These aliens had appeared from outer space twenty eight years earlier. In which city was the slum?

Answer: Johannesburg

A science fiction film with a rather odd story, "District 9" was shot on location in Soweto, a black township in Johannesburg, and deals with the initial arrival of a spaceship there in 1982, shown in a TV news broadcast at the start of the film. The aliens in it were initially made welcome by the Jo'burg population, but by the time of the main action in the film, the welcome had gone sour and they had been forced to live in Johannesburg's rottenest slums. It received four Oscar nominations: Best Picture (won by "The Hurt Locker"), Best Visual Effects ("Avatar"), Best Editing ("The Hurt Locker") and Best Adapted Screnplay ("Precious").
10. In the 1998 film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" which sportsman appeared as Big Chris?

Answer: Vinnie Jones

Vinnie Jones was still on the books at Queens Park Rangers when he appeared as hard man Big Chris. He went on, after retiring from football, to appear in films like "Gone in 60 Seconds", "Mean Machine" and "X-Men: The Last Stand".
